• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

The back of my 2005 R7 is dark, but not black. I'd almost describe it as a very, very dark brown, or almost eggplant-colored (without the blues/purples of course).

Hi all,
Cataract done about six weeks ago. Sight still 'ropey', however, seeing colours much better than before...
Regarding the shade of the back, someone mentioned 'chestnut' in a post. In the flesh, that is a perfect description of the colour on the back of mine - my photos appear slightly lighter than what one sees in the room.
Thanks for all the replies.

"Why Shirley?", I hear no one ask. :D
Well, I'm a big fan of the James Bond books/films... THE classic is 'Goldfinger'... there's the scene where Bond finds the girl dead, covered in gold paint... the actress who played her is Shirley Easton... and also, the theme tune was sung by a a talented Welsh, black lady, who has the distinction of being the only person to do two Bond tunes, (Dame) Shirley Bassey.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.
Great Guitar, Great Movie ( Connery wasnt the best Bond, IMO, hes the ONLY Bond) and Great singer Shirley Bassey killed that theme song!!
As for the back color, I've never liked the Historic "light backs", as they looked too bleached and the Dark Backs were always wayyyyyy too dark for me.
When I ordered my 2018 R7 M2M I requested a "dark light back". I wanted a back color that reminded me of a '58 Goldtop I had played years ago. I think it came out nice.
As a side note, on my '20 60th Anniv R0 M2M, because of the one-off top color, I asked for a dark stained brown back. That came out even better. I told Gibson Custom "this is what a dark bark should look like..!!!
The photo shows both guitars. R0 on the left, R7 on the right The second photo was the R0 after the stain was applied, but before nitro. And yes, that is a flame mahogony neck!!!

I think they've all done a job that was appropriate to the script. though I think the last good Bond film was Golden Eye. Brosnan and Craig were great Bonds in, frankly, poor films.
IMHO. Damien Lewis SHOULD be the next Bond, but 'they're' most likely going to f*** it over with all this "beigism"*

Yeah. I've got an LP with a flamey mahogany neck, though, it's a copy and not a Gibson.

*"Beigism" - from the word 'beige', a phrase used by Sir Billy Connolly to describe the PC movement.
