• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

As you’re probably aware, JimmyAce (John) is now the proud owner of my (former) ’03 Braz R0 Stinger…a guitar I never thought I’d part with. John finally figured out how I “tick”, and what it takes for me to let go of guitars I otherwise have no intention of giving up. I’m generally not motivated by cash; but instead, it takes a very interesting trade to get my attention. And he’s not the first person who’s figured this out about me.

Well, John (with the help of some other forum members) found something that he knew would be of interest to me, and then proceeded to coordinate a deal involving three people, two guitars and undisclosed sums of cash. And the bottom line guitar-wise, was that he ended up with my ’03 Braz R0, and I ended up with this Murphy aged, ’03 Braz R8 Stinger, which, according to Dave Carpenter and the current folks at Music Machine, was the only Stinger aged by Tom.

So, without further ado, here’s my new baby. (BTW, my apologies to those of you have already seen this.) Note, that the color changes quite a bit depending on lighting conditions.

At night, in incandescent light:

Indoors, in indirect light:

Oh, and for those of you who are thinking that this guitar looks familiar, it could be because it looks very similar to my Murphy aged ’03 Braz R9. I would bet that they both came from the same tree, if not the same board. And I believe they were both probably originally painted at the same time, in the same color. My R9, however, has seen a lot more fading of the red, both on the front and the back. So, what do you think...separated at birth? (new R8 Stinger on the left, and R9 on the right):

I hope you like it!

Thanks, Mike. Coming from you, as someone who's owned a few yourself, that's a real compliment.

I tell you, though, what "bugs" me about these rare/collectible guitars is that as much as I'd like to make modifications to them, like inlay upgrades, etc., I know that I shouldn't if I want them to hopefully retain their value. I now have a few of these vintage looking guitars, with which I'd love to go all out with the mods, but I dare not do so.

go for it- live and play- the value will remain basically the same-
even improve if the guitar is actually played often-
but you know this already.

Wow, nice Frank!

First thing I thought of was the top on the Murph, and then there the pic was.

Frank...tell you what. You let me pick which of your guitars gets modded and if you ever decide to sell, I promise I'll give you the fair, devalued price. :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

Congrats! I like that the figure in this top simultaneously embodies complexity and subtlety (a rare combination); also, if there's an "it" to have, then all I would say is, this top definitely has "it." Seriously, when figure starts to suggest hints of blister or burl, it's talking my language. :)

Really terrific sunburst shape and color — and photos! — too. :salude

Cool... those tops do look very similar. That one green inlay really pops on the Stinger.
