• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Finally got a chance to do an NPD for these puppies... hope to get them installed this weekend. My Babe (CC#3) hasn't been getting the playtime she deserves, so hopefully these will give her some edge over the competition. :jim

Let us know what you think. There is not really a lot of information out there from users/adopters as these are fairly new.

I'll let y'all know the verdict as soon as its in. I might get a chance to install them tomorrow, battling a mild case of the flu here and with this ringing in my ears the timing might not be optimal... as we all know you never get a second chance to make a first impression... so I might just wait. :hmm

Finally got around to installing these bad boys. Took me awhile to find a willing recipient but they finally wound up in my Slow Iced Tea Fade "Murphy Special"...

They are quite low output (7.44kΩ/6.69kΩ) but there is no mud to be found when cranking them. They are quite clear and articulate and fall a little on the bright side compared to the Burstbuckers which were replaced. Being low output they are very clean and really suit Les's style of playing... more Jazz than Rock, yet residing right on the border in between. They are not heavy rockers but handle blues pretty well. I've played them through a variety of amps and there are no surprises. I'll be running them through there paces a bit more tomorrow and checking out how well the neighbors approve. :hee

Two days ago, 1.21.22, I had the opportunity to meet Max Stavron and he personally installed these Doyle’s Coils and The Holy Grail Harness in my Guitar, a 2010 Custom Shop Standard Les Paul Siberian Tiger. It has been 10-11 years since I posted about my guitar SN CS001434 if it’s still in here. My email changed so I had to resign up. And someone else has my username now, LOL, but I don’t really care. I’m not a poster, I just wanted to put this out there for anyone who is looking for information about these coils.

With 11-12 years of history playing this ax, I can vouch that it is more alive right now than I have ever – ever heard it. Sound is always subjective, so I will not go into that, but low end mud, is mud, and clarity is clarity. Playing clean these are clear, articulate, and crisp. Start adding any pedals/overdrive/volume and you can get to just about any place you want to go. And I have a lot of places yet to go. I spent about 3 hours with Max who worked with Les Paul and Tom Doyle since he was 18. I learned things I never knew about Les’s career and goals. And I must say, that since Les’s guitars were in his house, I’m inclined to believe the history he told was accurate. Max was a gracious host, and I had the best day ever. After my experience about all I can say is everyone has an opinion. But I find anything posted negative on this board about these pickups must either be from a competitor or just plain jealously. Play the pickup you desire; search for the sound you are looking for. But don’t ever assume you are the undying opinion of what sounds the best. I have a piece of history stuck in my guitar right now and I am as happy as ever. Zero buyer’s remorse. My enjoyment level just took a dramatic jump, and I am lovin it.

Just spoke to Max for about an hour about this product. What a great customer service rep! Like you SixtyWhat, I'm SeventyWhat but don't smell a day over 69!!!
I've been performing on primarily Gibby Lesters' & 335z since 1969.
Like most of us who lived that era, we treated our stuff like 'tools' - not - collectors' items. I need say no more ... what a dope!
Anyways, I still crank through my Marshall 2466 100W, 65RI Twin and 65RI Super Reverbs - the only price I pay (at this time) is a few hours of high frequency ringing in the old earballs.
Its' O.K. 'cause it drowns out the wife ...

Unfortunately, Tom Doyle's business was totally destroyed by last week's hurricane Ian. They are now moving across the state to Ft. Lauderdale. Thank God everyone was OK!
Since they still have a few complete sets available at this time, I WILL order a set of these later today with the Holy Grail harness system.

A new Standard GoldTop came into my life in 2019, forcing me to spend a small fortune on pup and cap swaps ... to no avail. Something tells me Les, Tom and Max have nailed it!
So ... SixtyWhat ... your post is SO dead on the money - "I love ya man!"

i was in the midst of ordering and also heard they got bartered by the hurricane. Glad everyone was ok and all.

So I received my Doyle Coils with the harness for my 2022 Custom Shop Historic LP.. The CB’s sounded good but too muffled when rolling back the volume pot.

Anyway I saw a pickup comparison video that’s been floating around on these forums, which is what sold me. I’ll get straight to the point. These pickups are truly incredible and now I feel I have the Les Paul I always wanted. The Doyle’s gave this guitar what I describe as an authentic vintage sound and feel. Very articulate and detailed. Bell like tones and clear up and down the vol pots. Less compressed and they cut right through. The pots are 100% usable up and down 1-10 I love old Duane/ Dicky (and more current) Allman’s, Bloomfield, Zep and the sound and feel is right there.

Max at Doyle Coil is the Man! He helped me through and installation issue and spent several hours of his time helping me work it out. Basically the way the pick up or switch wire was soldered to the neck volume pot was grounding out. In the process I learned a lot as well. Very thankful!

Anyway that’s my report. Go buy a set!

I found them overhyped and thin. Harness was nice, but no better than any other quality offering. The pups did not offer an improvement, or awaken any guitar I tried them in and the high treble, upper mid hump was annoying and shrill. IMO Fenders Wide Range Humbucker far exceeds the Doyle Coil for this type tone. More functional and musical, without the snake oil hyperbole. Didn't work for me and I passed, different strokes I guess.
