I'm gonna try my hand at making string nuts. I ordered the stewmac essential nut making tool kit and some blank string nuts so hopefully I have a good starting point. I tried this once a long time ago with the wrong tools and bad results. But one thing I noticed when looking at my first failed attempt from years ago that the bleached bone didn't look good when held up to my Les Paul with yellowed cream binding. Any ideas how to make the nut blend in better? Maybe the vintage bone nut? Thanks, dj

Yes, the vintage bone would probably look better. A tip - practice on small blocks of wood before the nut material. A lot cheaper that way!

good nut shaping takes patience and practice - when cutting string slots, go slow, real slow

thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll try using wood first before the more expensive bone blanks. I never thought about that. dj

the problem I see is that cutting, shaping and filing wood is so much different than bone as to make the effort a waste of time
