• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Just picked up this totally original 1963 Fender 6G2 Princeton... Never owned a brownface. I love this thing. The amps sounds fantastic. Now I want a Brownface Deluxe

It was made 2 months after I was born...

Wow, that's super-clean! Nice score!!

... Has the original 2 prong cord. I am going to get that changed. ...

I saw an odd fix for this not too long ago; not sure I'd ever try it:

The amp owner had a mint original Fender and didn't want to "devalue" it with a change to a 3-wire cord. So he had a 3-prong plug/outlet combination into which the original 2-prong cord plugged. The ground wire was hardwired to that plug/outlet combo, and ran alongside the 2-wire cord up to the chassis, where a ring terminal on the end was mounted to the chassis under an existing mounting bolt.

Not sure if that is clever or overcautious about collectible value. The switch to a 3-wire cord never bothered me when I was buying vintage amps.

That sounds a little crazy to me... :)

I think I am going to have my guy remove it and just unsolder the death cap...I will hold onto them but this is something I don't see selling

Thanks

I just wrapped masking tape around the plug and then marked it with a sharpie.

My pal Boogie Bob, has an almost new tuxedo '63 Princeton, (black tolex, control panel/white knobs), awesome amp. I've never taken a hit for installing a 3prong cord.

... Tons of houses aren't properly grounded anyway. ...

A lot of venues aren't either.

I played a show once where my vintage amp with a 3-wire power cord was plugged into an outlet onstage. Naturally, the mic had its cable running to the PA mixer at FOH. I stepped to the mic, and a spark jumped out of the metal mic grill, hit me on the upper lip, and I felt the shock go down my left arm to the guitar's strings (and obviously from string ground through amp power cord & to the outlet).

I don't know which outlet (stage or FOH) was wired incorrectly, but one of them certainly was!

But that's okay. It wasn't as bad as when I managed to grab 450vdc. Thankfully, I followed the one-hand rule that time...

Cool! Damon fowler talks about using one of these on his new album. Fantastic sounding recording. Yours is superclean. It is one of my favorite recorded tones ever!

Well that sounds painful. I've grabbed the wrong thing rewiring houses before. It sent a jolt up my right arm, across my heart, and down my left arm. Both my arms were numb from my fingers to my elbows for about an hour. It's a jolt you'll never forget. :##

You might want to try putting a GFCI extension cord between your equipment and house power. They are different than surge strips. They trip when there is a change in current across the positive and negative terminals. Actually, you could use one instead of switching a 2 prong to a 3 prong power cord. :)

Bingo! You hath saved me! Maybe literally. And I'm not calling you Bingo, it's an expression of delight uttered by many oldsters on Indian property these days.
