I recently picked up this well, well worn 50's Jr alligator chipboard case to compliment my '56 Jr.

It's not in the best shape, and missing the Gibson brass badge and handle, but it's nice to have as a complimentary piece at least for photo's.
Good excuse for some new photos of the old girl.

Nice :salude !

Did they all look like that? I ask because my 57 came with a similar alligator case, but it doesn't look quite the same. The interior is black and "fluffier" than the one in your pics. It's not the most protective case in the world, and it looks old, that's about all I know about it.

To be honest I'm not really sure. I've never really paid much attention to them as they've always been such useless cases in my opinion that I never cared to go out of my way to find one, or learn a ton about them.

This one pretty much fell into my lap and I figured why not.

I have thrown more of them out than I have kept. Complete crap. Vintage crap to be sure, but crap. I have several in my storage unit as we speak. Don't want them in my house.

Black interior and fluffy lining is not right for a vintage Gibson gator case. :)

A superb set of photos buyusfear.......and a great subject matter too. Love the guitar, and the tatty case really does it proud.

Funny, I had to take a double take as I have what looks to be an almost identical '56 here in Cowtown, Alberta. The case too. Just love them early SC juniors!!

Best and cheeriest photos from Alberta in a while. Keep up the good work!

I know what you mean. I didn't care much about it when I got it. They look pretty cool though, and your photos are great as always!

Yup! I feel like using the case is just a smidge better than wrapping it in toilet paper and carrying it around...

Thanks for the info Tom! I suspected as much. I wonder if it's a sort of bad copy? I wonder why anyone would go to any length recreating those cases... :hmm

In order not to derail this thread I might start my own, maybe someone knows what brand I have.

There were several case makers using the alligator style covering. It was very popular at the time.

I guess most Juniors that came in these cases stayed home. I doubt many would have survived had they done much traveling in one... Oh and ditto on the nice snapshots!
