• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

New addition to the family,

1953 les Paul, all original except for the bigsby and added selector switch ring.. According to the previous owner the bigsby seems to have been added in the late '50's. Original tailpiece stud holes are underneath the dogbone bridge. Untouched solder joints and amazing sounds P90's. Awesome feeling '50's neck. Drove to NJ yesterday and picked her up from a member, this is the second deal I had with the seller, honest and fair... A great transaction...

She weights in at 9lbs..

Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure.

I like it with the Bigsby. I would recommend getting a Vibramate for the Bigsby, makes string changes a breeze. Is there much of a shadow from the Bigsby? Nice acquisition!

Congratulations! As you can see, I like this particular combo... :dude: Mine's a reneck/refin '55, but one of the best guitars I've ever played.

It's interesting, I have a thing for wraptails as well. I added the Bigsby as an experiment, and it changed for the guitar very much for the better. Strange. The nice thing is, you can go back and forth to see which you like more.

I see the previous owner(s) had a similar problem with getting the bridge low enough. I wound up getting a custom Tru-Arc made which gives me some room to work with the height.

In case you haven't seen one, here's a photo. They come in nickel as well as the gold. It's placed into the Bigsby string studs and then the ball end of the strings go into the comb, similar to a Gibson Vibrato.

That's pretty amazing - do they affect the way the Bigsby feels at all? :hmm
