• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I just wanted to share something that I just got a couple of weeks ago, but has been on my GAS list for a long time. It's a '54 LP in overall really good condition, but with a repaired headstock break. It's missing the original jack plate (just purchased one today from a forum member), low E tuner, poker chip, and has a replaced nut. All else is original from what I can tell. Loving it! :yah

Some touch-up work can be seen on the veneer, but they were careful to keep the silk screen unaltered. I'll post some black light pics below. The one of this shot is pretty cool. For now, I've got a 1955 Kluson on there with a Vintage Haven tip.

The P-90s sound amazing, although due to renovations, I've only tested it through my Kemper so far. The original frets and still good in most spots, but may need to be addressed in a short number of years.

I think it's a pretty early '54 with late '53 specs, including the thin tailpiece flange.

I was actually expecting the switch tip to be a replacement just based on the color, but once I got it, I'm thinking it might be original. It has the correct shape, but just doesn't seem to have ambered like most. Anybody have a better guess? The poker chip is a Montreux for now.

I have never seen a serial number like this one. :hmm

Me neither, Tom. My guess is that the last digit was either photoshopped out or disappeared during the headstock repair.

Congrats on your '54 Goldtop.

Owned one from the same year with the 'thin-ear' wrap-over tailpiece until about 3 or so years ago.

Play/enjoy in good health ... :)

That is my dream guitar. I would leave the bursts for others to enjoy, but I would love to own a real 54. Don't think it will ever happen, but I still dream about it.

Ah .... okay. :)

Just wondering, would it be easy to ad an X where the missing digit was? :hmm

Done. :salude

I used to think people were silly for obscuring serial numbers, but at some point someone convinced me that it was worth it. Still seems a little silly. Usually, I make it more obvious with a big dot or something, but decided to make this one "pretty."

I guess you can't be too careful these days but I still haven't found any real advantage for doing so. Just about every burst known has their serials exposed, I've probably posted a hundred guitars worth a much if not a lot more ...never hid the numbers and still haven't found reason to regret showing them.
