i think i have come as close as i can in fulfilling one of my life long dreams, the ownership of a Real 58-60 Burst, put prices are not something i’am willing to pay for.. So, i found the next best thing a conversation, here’s the story
On a Mid April Friday afternoon, i was skimming the forums and came across a posting about a conversion listed for sale in the San Diego Craiglist (thanks jojosoda for posting) .. and i thought well thats interesting cause i have been on a conversion search for quite some time. So, on my way to the dentist i called the number and left a voice mail, the seller called back while i was in the dentist chair, so we played phone tag a few times and finally i spoke with him. He turned out to be a very respected fellow forum member. He gave me all the details on the guitar, the work that was done to it and i was hooked.. For about a week we talked & negotiated and finally the deal was done. Payment was made on a monday, shipped fedex overnight and on Tuesday she arrived.. The seller was a true gentlemen, the guitar arrived exactly as he stated, Seller is our very own WILKO. Some of you may already know this beautiful guitar and her story, but for those who don’t, let me introduce you to 6-1210, she’s a 56/59 Conversion with PAF’s. *Special thanks to wilko (rick) for the caring so much about this guitar. Also special thanks goes out to jumping@shadows (yuuki) for his insight, knowledge & correspondence..
So,
After play her for the last 5-6 weeks, here are my thoughts.. She feels very comfortable in my hands, nicely worn warm feeling. I can get under the strings for some great note bending with no flat spots, smooth vibrato with the notes just blooming with character. The vibration that the body has is something else, more than any other vintage guitar i own or played. The Paf’s OMG, amazing, they sound best at around 7-8 on the volume pot... very 3D, soft, warm and aggressive when you dig in... i love play blues in the middle position, bridge volume on 8 and Neck volume on 5 and tone on 8. I real do think that the vintage pots make a difference also. I can now truly understand what all the hype is about.
So, how does the conversion compare to my ’68 Les Paul, well the ’68 not that far off, the tone is obviously different due to the ‘54 P90, but again not that far off. both great, just different..
So, how did it compare to my old TB Replica,* well again, not that far off...*
was the conversion worth the coin .. yes, 100 % .. best guitar i ever played...*
IMHO, a great les paul (replica, historic, 68-69, etc) will get you about 80% there, but the other 20%, thats really hard to achieve ...
I'am a very luck and grateful man :teeth
For your view pleasure
