• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Can anyone with a old non master 50' watt marshall tell me
what this head sounds like in a full stack configeration?
I have always wanted a old marshall stack ,
I know this is really overkill but what the hell it makes me happy
and you only live once.
Right now I am playing through a old sound city 4x12 bottom
with old pre rolla 25 watt celestions.
and this thing sounds amazing every 70's rock sound is here
just plug in and adjust the volume knobs,Its just like tuning a radio!
I don't have anyway of testing two cabinets at once
so some feedback from you all would be great.
thanks.

The Sick F**k that I am will tell you one head per cab @16 ohms, they sound better that way. 2 cabs sound better than 1, and 4 sound twice as good as 2. Its a fullness thing, and you just can't put in into words. Its a whole new meaning to the word "Surround Sound" . Really, 2 cabs is the shit, even if you had to run at 8 ohms untill you get the 2nd head. I don't know why, but they do sound better with one head per cab @ 16 ohms. Well, you asked.:lol2

I have a '74 Marshall 100 watt non mv Superlead with both original cabs loaded with 25 watt greenbacks.

I like running both cabs. It sort of smooths out the sound a little bit, and just fills a space with sound, even if the volume is turned down a little.

Moving it sucks, but it's a small price to pay if you're doing a bigger gig.

This is the KEY thing here, fullness is not to be confused with volume. You can actually run less volume if you have massive fullness. man, I used to use 4-6 cabs for gigs when the venues were huge, and I noticed as the clubs got smaller and smaller, I was using less and less untill I was down to only 2 cabs and at the same time I noticed my volume settings were getting higher and higher.

Man, the early 80s was the era of the metal head, shit, there were times where we would have 12 and as much as 16 cabs on stage, places were much larger then . I saw priest in the early 80s with 40 heads and 40 cabs on stage. Metal, its a big dick thing.
