• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Opinions on the divided by 13 EDT 13/29 ?

What could I expect in term of tone and versatility. I've been searching for the the ultimate grab and go combo(if there is such a thing). I'm thinking this could be it.
I've been listening to some clips of the Two Rock Jet at www.indoorstorm.com
which also sounds impressive; but I'm leaning toward the/13.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Fred loaned one to me to try for a couple of days and it is very big sounding.
I would think it would be great as a "grab and go" amp. It really covers a lot of sonic ground. Just so you know it weighs about 50 pounds or a little more. For most gigs you'll likely leave it at full power. Set on half power it breaks up early which would be good for recording or quiet gigs. I put a review on harmony-central.com if you want more information.

I just purchased one and find it for most gigs I do it works perfect Very loud for the wattage, and very sweet tones,I have been using a THD hot plate to keep it down just a tad,It really no heavier that a Fender Deluxe with a JBL in it,it easy to pickup and carry.

Funny, I almost forgot I started this thread, maybe a couple of months ago.
The KR12 I just reviewed appeared in the interim.

Valdee,
I'd be interested to hear more specifics about where this amp resides sonically, What guitars are you running through it?
It has to be incredible w/ those KT66's.

I have two and I plan to get an RSA23 and a FTR37. I have a JRT 9/15 and a SJT 10/20. These amps are just too good to be true. They are about on every major stage from MCartney to Sting. Each model has its own unique thing. I'm hooked and want every one. I go out to my studio and play more than I ever have before because of these amps.

I haven't heard the KT66 RSA23 but pro guys I respect say it roars like no other. Here's a pic of my little low watt Div By 13's. Not much headroom on these little 10 or 15 watt amps but they've changed everythng as far as how I view new amps.

This picture is from Sting's last tour. The guitarist used two FTR37 heads for rhythm and switched to the RSA23's on top for solos. Beautiful rig.

Tone is in the fingers, but since I witnessed the great raws sounds that Macca's Rusty Anderson was getting through these amps live I am hoping to play one of these someday...

You know these amps are all different I also had the 10-20 and the 13/29 has a creamier type of tone compared to the 10/20,but man they both are close,I just wanted the more wattage headroom, and the 13/29 works for my gigs,I use a Hot Plate to do like coffee shops where I can krank the sweetness of the power section and keep it at about 8 DB cut and it just sings with no pedals required.

+10000 on the JRT 9/15. I cannot imagine life without it now that I own one!

Hey Frank,

They are two very different amps. The Reinhardt is PHENOMENAL for a super ballsy Marshall tone. I mean spot on! The D13 is more a Stones, Faces, SRV, ZZ Top tone if you ask me. Even though both amps have EL84's, their layouts are different.

The D13 has way more chime and is overall more like a Vox on steroids and the Reinhardt is like super lead Marshall without volume levels that will crack the foundation of your home. I affectionately refer to my Reinhardt 18 as the "little monster" because the small amp packs a big punch. The D13 gets me a great Ritchie Blackmore tone. As for D13 clips, there are a few hidden on Fred's website at http://www.dividedby13.com/clips/

Cheers,

KHAN.

The "LDW 17/39" is the Lyle D Workman model. Developed especially for him. Interesting to note he does not use them and much prefers the FTR 37. He along with McCartney's Rusty Anderson have probably spent more time than anyone with Div/13 amps and doing beta testing for Fred. He says the FTR 37 is the best all around amp in the line. That's his set up above in post #6 on tour with Sting.

j45 that FTR 37 is right up my alley, man that thing has more gain than i thought it would.
and i see it can drop down to 18 watts!!

ps j45 in post 6 pic, are those each a stereo cab?

In post #6 which was taken during setup in an outdoor arena in Istanbul, the two top amps are both RSA 23's, one a two channel big box and the other a small box with single channel. With Sting he used a Div By 13 Switchazel pedal and used the bottom two heads, the FTR 37's for cleaner tones and switches to the two KT66 23 watters for leads. He said he maintained somewhat of unity in volume this way without a huge increase/decrease in level going back and forth. I don't think the cabs are stereo but I'll check how that works.

thanks J, after hearing those clips posted here and reading your strong endorsement Div 13.

I know you have a alot of experience (more than me anyways) as far as music goes and we seem to like the same tones from what i read and hear in your posts, i will be gettin the 37 soon

Also J i what i was wondering was are both the 23 and the 37 running into the same cab and if so how is he doin it if its not a stereo cab?, please forgive my ignorance if the question is obvious but im still tryin to figure out things other than plug and play.

Thanks again, you and Khan for your inputs and time

I'm looking for one, too. I'm also very interested in the RSA 23. Players I've talked to with ears I respect says that it is really something special. I hope to get both. I had not heard those clips before. The tight, punchy, and well defined cleaner single notes on the lower strings in those clips really floored me.

Anymore thoughts on the EDT 13/29 combo? Went to try one, but it was sold that morning. Does it need to be cranked loud to get decent overdrive? Pictures anyone??
