• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hello, I have the chance to pick up the above guitar and am wondering if it’s a well regarded model?
It seems to sit between the studio and classic. This particular one has gold hardware, coil splittable 57 classics but also the granadillo fingerboard, not rosewood. I will see if the guitar speaks to me when I play it, but I was just wondering what the experts here think! Thanks:dude:

I had one, did some mods but otherwise it sounded and played great. I moved it on as it had some finish issues that pissed me off, but otherwise they are cool guitars. The 57s sounded especially nice.

I had a post on my social media that read when I search for a new guitar it is always a 1990 to 2006 LP. I say this because it would seem that Gibson after this time frame changed everything from woods, to necks, to fret wires, to chambers. their standard became anything but a standard. I like to think of the time frame as a great Gibson high light.

I would say look into a model from this time frame with Ebony neck and burstbucker pros. Many great Studios can be found on reverb for a great price. And in my humble opinion the ALNICO 5 pickups (BB Pros) are the best EVER - I can get all tones from them four knobs on the body that I desire!

Happy Hunting!

After viewing your other posts I get that you like Les Pauls from a certain time frame, but to write off any guitar just because of when it was made is a little foolish. Many members on here have great guitars from alledgedly dubious periods

My advice to Demon Dave would be if the guitar speaks to you buy it, don’t dwell on what year it was made.

And my advice would be if he is buying used - buy something of quality for the same money. Is that neck even wood? Or is it the resin that was being passed off when Gibson went into their lets put out crap phase. You should know there are phases to the Gibson history. To say these last years of Gibson have been anything else but stink, well my brother you would just be painting a turd.

Yes the neck is wood.

I am aware of Gibson’s history.

My 2016 from Gibson’s crap phase as you call it is as good a guitar as my 2005.

My advice to Demon Dave still stands, Gibson made many fine instruments since 2006 go try one and if it speaks to you buy it regardless of when it was made.

I’ve had many Gibson in my life, what I can say, is that I like my 2013 SG standard, much more than my ‘61 reissue from 1986, that I sold several years ago. The Signature T comes with a Granadillo board, it is a wood often used for different musical instruments. It’s just a lighter shade than rosewood. The other species are similar to the traditional.

Unfortunately If I’ll decide to buy this Signature T, I’ll have no chance to play it before the deal. the seller is distant from my place, and with this lockdown, we can’t meet. This guitar has the specifics I want, and visually is perfect. Anyway I researching info everywhere, on the net, about this kind of LP, made only for one year 2013. And everyone who own it, love it and treat this instrument as a keeper.

If you are unable to try the guitar I would make sure the seller will accept returns, unfortunately at this time buying secondhand certainly has it’s perils.

Good luck & stay safe.

Please stay away from necks that use alternative woods, laminated woods and resins. I know these alternative woods have their fan base circling about, but in the end the traditional neck woods are the woods folks most desire. Paying a couple grand now only to find it goes down in value later is a total kick to the stomach. Again just my most humble opinion.

My fav Les Paul. Granadillo fretboard is fine. I’ve bought a few and it’s my go to guitar over many very expensive guitars I own.
