• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

This got me thinking -- "what are the options" ? Has anyone here had personal experiences ?? :salude

That's my thought also.
I looked at a refin 53 with a wraptail. If I got it, I would consider seeking humbuckers that fit the P-90 rout.

I've been thinking the same thing myself lately for my '54, and I've made a few inquiries but the only actual P90 sized humbucker I've found is the German made Haessel.

Btw those new Kinman noiseless P90's look interesting...

Dimarzio has a few. I have a Tone Zone and Virtual P90 in a non-Gibson, and while they're not perfect, the Tone Zone is a great pu and the Virtual P90 is passable...

I think some of you guy's misread Greg's request, he's after P90 sized humbuckers, not humbucker sized P90's.

That's a tough one. I've never played a true P90-sized humbucker, but it seems like every winder and their brother offers a humbucker-sized P90. Haeussel is the only one I know of that's got something like you're after. Another option would be to have one custom made, which is possible with a little elbow grease. Mini-buckers are sort of like this, but it'd be interesting if the coils were taller to accomodate more wire.

Trimming down the baseplate (and bobbin?) will allow a full size humbucker to fit, a forum member has done this but I cant find the thread. How did he mount it?

The old Lawrence L550s/560s are on the bay all the time, if that's your flavor.

The Kinman P-90Hx is the shit. I have one in my PRS SE One and it kicks ass, sounds like a P-90 and is quiet as the grave. If I had a P-90 Gibson, I would be putting these in it.

:hmm thanks for all the ideas, folks.... I've been tempted to route, but just can't get my heart around it -- teh Deutscher may just be the ticket.

You may not need to rout your vintage LPs to use the Kinman. If your stock rout is at least half an inch deep, you may be able to bolt it right to the wood. I did that on my PRS SE One and the coupling is phenomenal.
