Is it just me or are other people kinda getting a kick out of the unrest?? Not the violence or the unfortunate man that was killed yesterday of course but in the reality that in a country that seems to pride themselves for being pussies, it doesn't seem to work any better than anywhere else... France has long supported inaction for any conflict they were not part and party to already and their opposition to acting always seems to be rooted in some pompous belief that they are above using force to combat violence... It looks as if that has paid off in well in their not being able to even quell a bunch of Muslim youths... One would think Muslims would hold France in higher regard for their deep opposition to the war in Iraq but as we have long since known, they have no allegiance to anyone not under the name of Ala... I know it's schadenfreude but I just can't help but laugh... I saw a French reporter on TV this morning and it sounded as if France was ready to surrender (yet again)...

I heard that in France the terror alert level went from Run....to Hide :2lol

Seriously, the French police and the system is very tough. But France has got to deal with the looney press now too which treats these bastards like they're just these poor souls who are only violent because of their poverty and their shoddy treatment.

Its about time someone quit tiptoing around the Muslim situation. JMO.

I wouldn't expect France to stop tiptoing anytime soon, which is really too bad. Extremists still see France as "The West", if they support the war or not.

Don't get me wrong, I love french fries, pastries, and those french style cut green beans are genious... But these guys are spineless..

Hey, are there any great french guitarists? It doesn't seem there are many LPF members from France either.

That's how the fries got their "french" name.
I understand they originated in Belgium. ;)

Round 'em up, put them on a cargo plane with parachutes, fly over the sahara, open the cargo doors and give 'em a boot in the ass.

There was that one guy a while back who was hurling insults left and right... he was a guitar teacher.

Very amusing, while it lasted.

Now he jams with the banned... :bonk

French have many great guitarists, especially in progressive rock circle, which is still much played there.
About the critical situation in France -- i think its a "gift" for European Unions pseudohumanistic and too much liberal politics. Its a time to radically change the rules especially in immigrants politics and whole social system.
We are laughing here in Slovakia that we had here socialism during the cold war from eastern Soviet Union and now the socialism comes back from the western European Union.

Riots and France go together like wine and cheese. They are both traditional combinations. They have riots every few years. One year it will be angry farmers the next year university students.... It just happens to be the Muslims turn.

I read that something like 50% of the French carry a parasite in their brain that is transmitted to humans by eating raw meat. The usual incidence is much, much lower in the rest of the world. The parasite apparently does not harm people with the exception being that it has some effect on people's judgment and risky behavior. They actually think this parasite my be the reason the French have a higher incidence of car accidents than the rest of the world. Maybe all of the riots are just the result of steak tartar. :lol

Are you guys excusing this?

This isn't an immigrant problem or disaffected youth...this is a problem with the MUSLIM community. Let's at least call it what it is.

Poverty doesn't excuse violence.

I don't excuse this but I think the French do to some extent. I think the attitude there is that the disaffected have the right to throw a temper tantrum in the form of a riot every now and then. After a a few cars are burned and crowd barricades are thrown around the problem will go away on it's own. I may not be the best attitude but I think it is prevalent there.

I'm going to generalize here for a second, for better or worse, but of the two dozen or so French I've met...every last one of them was smug, rude, and pompous. I could write paragraphs of the sheer snobbery that they put on.
My one quick story is this...While in St.Lucia this summer we had a chance to visit La Martiniqu. This, of course, being a French influenced Island. My wife talked me into going and when we finally got off the boat the Dive Master explained to us that many of the French resturaunts will not serve Americans. (Edit: Actually they wouldn't serve anyone who wasn't French. This would include the folks from St.Lucia next door who were nothing but fantastic) "They will explain that they are closed for the next two hours", which is about all the time most people have on the island.
Bottom line...I had a McRoyal...with cheese.

Bash France all you want, I'll still take Paris (as cities go, it's DAMN NICE!!).

The upshot of all of this: Watch Le Pen get elected during the next go round, and then we'll really be at hell's door.

I got a telling off on this forum for innocently using the shortening "Jap" when referring to Japanese made guitars (really, I didn't know it was offensive in any way, sincere apologies were made). There are very few places in this world without problems and it's perfectly fair to give your views on these troubles, but is all the French-bashing and stereotyping here really necessary? I've travelled all over that country and believe me there's plenty of great people there, it's just the arseholes that people notice (in England we have the same problem with the USA).

And yes Litcrit, if there was one city in the world I'd choose to live it would be Paris, I'm completely in love with it, so the current situation there really saddens/sickens me.

By the way, for the last 2 weeks we have had race riots here in Birmingham (my second favourite city). Feel free to comment.

All the more reason that countries need to integrate imigrants and not be infiltrated.

I am fundamentally against the law that if someone is born within your borders they immediately become citizens. This law alone causes the flood gates of immigration to burst. I don't blame them, who wouldn't want a better life for their children?

France must live in the bed it made for itself.

If being born in this country to two legal citizens then yes. As native as you are to England I guess?

Yes, exactly my point. Our distant ancestors (yours and mine) did the invasion thing too, and probably were a lot less subtle about it.

Actualy I'm the result of ruthless English conquest. I speak English and do "cultural things" like celebrate Christmas and I play football (Soccer). :salude

I'm against the concept of people coming to a country illegally and then demanding that the country improve their economic and social position. In reality things can't work like that.
