• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

And what is the percentage of Americans that have/drive cars, versus the percentage of Americans that play guitar?

Obviously it's more. But Velocity is not about getting from point A to point B, which is what the average car "user" does.

Just because something doesn't exist doesn't mean it's not a great idea, WHO does it can be more important than anything.

MTV was started by Michael Nesmith. (guitarist.)

I also think there's a kindred spirituality shared amongst gearheads and enthusiasts of different passions.

Time will tell if The Guitar Channel will happen or not. Personally, I think it would have had a better chance of happening in 1990-2007, you know, when all those guitar hedge funds were so popular.

I would have expected BANKTV to get off the ground then. :laugh2:

Someone pretty knowledgable would have to spearhead it and really be able to lay out the prospects of a lot of content. Money may not be what it was some years back, but content-driven TV keeps growing. Just got to find a way of getting one of the heavies like Discovery behind it.

Eric...you can be 'The Guitar Whisperer'.

Or maybe Tom can, and you can cover 'Vintage Nightmares'.

YouTube has about as much guitar content as you could possibly want.

Original programming would be the only reason to have a channel.

Shhhhh..... :rofl

Just watch American Greed on CNBC. I think there have been mentions of some well known collectors as well as someone mentioned on this thread.

Yeah as I mentioned before there's already a lot of stuff out there on YT already, but you could definitely take a step up with production for TV and expand on it. Again, using Velocity as an example...there's a lot of car content on the web with YT and Streetfire, etc. But you turn that into bigger quality shows for TV, especially on a major network like Discovery.

But like implied earlier....will it be as interesting following people in a guitar store/repair shop as...say...a custom garage...or secret moonshine stills or building treehouses? Maybe not. But maybe as a whole it could be. Part of this is seeing what reaction is like in enthusiast sites like this because I work in film and TV...and let's just say I have more than just a passing interest. ;-)

Another issue would be if you were doing some sort of big piece on guitar collecting...at what point does it become an "exposé"? It might come to a point eventually (unavoidably?) where you'll be naming or at last questioning people who are still in the business of guitar dealing...heck, some of the same that you may have interviewed for substantial parts of the piece already.

I think you'd have to...kinda' like doing programming on art collecting without mentioning all the forgery...a la the other thread o 'Authenticating'.

Imagine if you interview and have Phil Harris demo the Peter Green guitar...and in that same sitting, you ask him about parts swapping and fraudulent provenance....

Or have Music Ground as a vintage/collectible dealer, proudly displaying their inventory in episode one, and telling the camera crew to leave the premises in episode four when they're asked to comment on theft, etc.

I can see how "The Guitar Channel" could work.

As Eric mentions, plenty of people that might not be players would probably watch.

Guitar Center has been running their own show on cable for a few years now. Classic concert footage could definitely be a staple as well as hordes of professionally produced gear demos that generally go to the included CD with Guitar World magazine and others.

Some vintage gear has already been the subject of shows like "Antiques Roadshow" and "Pawn Stars." Get a show going in the same vein, and who knows what people might start looking for in grandma's attic!

I'll bet they could do a series on "Slash Signature" guitar models alone.:rofl

Okay, maybe not that last one..... But the saga of Greeny would be a must see.
