it isn't on the neck or fingerboard though, those woods are completely different to the maple used for the cap.

If this was a feature on a signature guitar it would be a non issue, it would be part of the “vibe”! I have a very unique “ripple effect” that covers the complete top of one of my HP Les Pauls. The effect is very uniform and covers the complete top of the guitar, like it was suppose to be that way. Kinda bothered me initially but I’m diggin it now. I look at it as part of the uniqueness of the guitar. It’s a very nice Bourbon Burst that was difficult to let go.
