Hello all, I am new here and this is my first post. I just bought what guitar center is calling a 2001 Les Paul standard. However the serial number starts with 02. Wouldn't that make the guitar a 2002? I know in 2001 the standards came with 490 and 498 pickups but changed to burstbuckers in 2002. Would like to know what pickups I have. Also my guitar is missing the pickguard. Will any year Les Paul pickguard fit my guitar or did they change the design at any time? Thanks in advance for the help.

How many digits are in the serial number? If it's 8 or 9 then the 1st and 5th are the year.

Are there holes drilled for the pickguard screws?

My 2002 wasn't drilled and I just bought a standard Gibson pickguard (PRPG 030) and fitted it fine. I know it's not exactly the same year but that might help.

As for pickups next time you change strings just unscrew the pickup rings and lift the pickups out to check underneath. Those Burstbuckers had PAF stickers on them and I think the 490R/498 had Gibson stamped underneath.

I ordered a package deal from Sweetwater that has the pickguard, The bracket with the nut and bolt that holds the bracket to the pickguard and 4 new standard knobs. All the pickguards have a pinkish hue to them. Is that what the original one looked like? Also did not see the screw that holds the bracket to the body or the screw that holds the pickguard on the top in the deal. Anyone know where I can get those? Thanks again

Yep mine had a pinkish hue - in my case I replaced the pickup rings at the same time (with historic ones) so they all matched.

The screws should be in the packaging (shrink wrapped over cardboard I seem to remember) but they're in there loose so check they haven't escaped as you opened it.
