could someone compare a 498T to a 500T and tell me the difference? i have the 500T now and it seems to metal. too much highs and sustain and not enough mid. would the 498T be a good switch?

The 498T will have even more highs than the 500T. What guitar is the 500T in?

Did you put that pickup in? It should already have the 498T from the factory, unless its an older custom.

It's SO subjective. I love gain, but I can't use the prototype 500T I have, it's just too much output, no subtlety and doesn't do clean. On the other hand, the JB I have sounds waay to thin in my Goldtop. It's a bloody minefield! :)
