• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hey guys my singer needs us to tune down a half step but I hate the way my guitars sound tuned down. Anyone have any tips for set up and strings to make it work? I use D’Addario 10-46 strings

I tune to D and generally use 11-49 or D’Addario balanced tension 11-50, and on occasion I use a 12 set. Setup wise you should only need a minor truss rod adjustment if that, unless your nut slots need to be widened.

If playing in standard tuning just play 1/2 step down. If in open G or D then you have a problem.

Try the Stringjoy balanced set 10-48. Their strings are a little stiffer, so it they should feel less noodley. They also stay in tune well.

XL115 set from DAddario. It doesn't bother me too much tune down half step. Sound is usually "fatter" but the feel is too slinky for me. Feels like .090s!

try 10.5 or 11 strings. i love how a guitar sounds and plays tuned down a half step but also loathe how my LP's feel tuned down with 10s.

and another out of the box option: the digitech Drop pedal. will allow you to keep your guitar tuned to standard and the 1/2 step down increment sounds pretty pure and faithful. any deeper down than that and it gets to sound pretty muddy. i use one occasionally and it works as advertised.
