• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

" I'm using a Cornell 18/20 Plexi and a homemade cab with 65s. "

Pat -

I had dinner with Billy Gibbons and his manager over in Palm Springs. No I am not buddies with him - we shared a table at a packed tiny thai food place !
I was headed to see Kal David and I dont know where they were headed .

I have always been a fan of the first ZZTOP record so I asked the Revered " How did you get your tone on Brown sugar ? "

He gave me the details first hand which I will pass on to you - right from the horses mouth :

1) guitar - pearly gates - he told me the song requires a Les Paul - any other guitar you see him play it on is for show only

2) amp - Marshall 50 watt lead - vintage 70s

3 ) here is the secret sauce - the Mic - he told me its critical to the sound - must be a " German tube " mic - I think a Telefunkin or

2009 Gibson 50th Anniversary R9 Les Paul.

In addition to the really nice work on the fretboard , you have some really nice vocals . My compliments (sounds like the Delta is running thru your veins ) !

Here is an old song that is basically Rocky Hill's version. Again, my 2009 50th Anniversary with a Cornell 18/20 Plexi.

Now,

I'm gonna get creepy and say if I were in Dallas I would definitely be following you guys around!

I listened to all three tracks there and absolutely love the sound.

The bass knocks you to the ground, the drum hits you just right (and I rarely say that about either) and then you finish it off with the tone I have tried to get since the 60's.

When one member of the trio is there the other two are on top of the situation.

I have not seen that in a band in a while.

A good while.
