• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Post here some photos of your favourite Les Paul player!

Frehley isn't technically a great player but teenage me likely would have never bought a Les Paul back in the 80s when all my friends were buying pointy pink crap guitars if it wasn't for Ace. Thanks to Ace I bought a great used custom that's been my number 1 for close to 40 years. Rhoads is here too simply because he was awesome.

have seen many LP players over the years; too many to list and many of these have already been posted here.

Most were known LP players and one, or two were known more for playing other guitars.

The usual suspects are Billy Gibbons, Joe Perry, Randy Rhoads, Jeff Beck, Danny Johnson, Charlie Starr, and Eric Johnson.

I went to see Ozzy in March, 1982 only to see what all the fuss was about Randy. Randy did not disappoint as he was an extremely exceptional guitarist IMHO. Sadly Randy would play only four more shows after I saw him and then Randy was gone.

I saw Eric play 14 shows in a 29 month period which was a phenomenal joy of epic proportions. Eric is known as a Strat player but he also played ES-335s and SGs for several tunes. One show I saw Eric play acoustic and piano but no electric guitar. It was other worldly, it demonstrated the true musicianship of Eric, and his singing came to the forefront.

In April, 2000 Eric played a short four date tour called The Vortexan Sessions with Trey Gunn and Jerry Marotta. Eric played the 'Buddy' burst during this show at Deep Ellum Live in Dallas, Tx.
The story I heard was that Eric purchased the Buddy burst from a preacher in the Dallas area. Eric's tech at the time, the late Jeff Van Zandt, had stated that the Buddy burst was quite light in weight but all I know is that in Eric's hands that burst sounded like a million buck$!!!

I used to have several pics of the Buddy burst but all I could find now is one; looks like from Eric's studio likely taken by Park Street.
The guitar at one time had a Bigsby and the imprint of the name Buddy can be seen on the pick guard.
Some years after Eric sold the Buddy burst I saw it for sale somewhere for $350K; don't know what price it eventually sold for.
I think Gibson also eventually did a very abbreviated run of Buddy burst LPs; just a hand full I believe.
Yes, Eric can set a Les Paul ON FIRE too. No Strats required. LOL
