• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I didn't think there was anything more stupid than a relic guitar. I stand corrected.

That looks like the early-mid 2000s version.

Funny how wear from actual use drops the price but fake wear is a price adder.

well that's because actual use is customer-side in which the instance you take it out the door the value has decreased, whereas fake wear is added labor costs on the manufacturer, but the sentiment is very well understood :)

I could do a better case with one week of gigging in the rainy summer months of korea.

I get why the company has a higher MSRP, but not why people are willing to pay more for an item aged by Gibson than aged from actual use.

Gibson warehouse to management: "what are we going to do with this leftover pallet of imperfect cases?"

I'm going to buy 10 of them and I'll tell you why.

Because I can sell them in the parking lot at a Brantley Gilbert show for a fat $1K straight up dawg! -- I'll even throw in some free wallet chain polish with every case!

Hahahahaaaaa:lol. That made me spit coffee !

I have a Nicky and have had several Murphy and Fender relic stuff over the years and really like them. That being said I totally get the ridiculousness of it.

I recently tried to explain the concept of the CC Nicky Aged to the keyboard player in my church worship band and he just looked at me like I was out of my mind. His quote “So you paid extra to have it beat up?” I replied yes and felt really stupid. That being said I still LOVE THEM - and will continue to buy them.

At least I give you credit for seeing "the ridiculousness of it". So what other relics have appeal? New cars? Appliances?
I think the retailers are missing an opportunity here. Quit selling "scratch and dent" for less, and start selling "relics" for more.

Some of the earliest hero's of the vintage game who's adoring fans chase those 25 large & up "tone machines" have been quoted to say that when they shopped for old guitars when the prices were down to earth they preferred them well worn in. Of course, somehow that doesn't apply to that '95 Les Paul Studio in the Pawn Shop these days! But, you know, I can see why folks would dig the relic thing.

More so, I can't understand the vitriol against them being "fake." So ****ing what?? A guitar I don't buy would never piss me off to the extent it flares other people's temper right up. :laugh2:
