• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

This one was a shocker. Didn't see it coming at all :dang
One of my all time favorite voices....him and Don.
He will be sorely missed.

I always felt that if I were in a band with Don Henley, I'd probably want to slap him. Just something about him would bring that out.

After seeing the documentary "History Of The Eagles", I'm 100% sure that if I were ever in a band with Glenn Frey, we would have literally had a fistfight. That kind of guy and I would have come to blows somewhere along the way, no doubt.

But...you NEED someone like that in a band. A driving force, charging ahead like a bull and doggedly persistent about going out there and rocking the house. He took absolute pride in that band and the music they created and sometimes you had to be a bulldog about things. In short....he was right. And even though night in and night out, he'd probably rub you the wrong way or say the wrong thing at the wrong time....I'm certain that as much as his, Henley's and everyone else's talent, we have that tenacity of his to thank for an essential part of the American Soundtrack ever since that first G-Chord of 'Take It Easy' hit in 1972.

He said it best when referring to their music's popularity even after the band had broken up..."People didn't just listen to the Eagles, the DID things to the Eagles. They broke up with their girlfriend, or drove their first car to them."

How ironic, yet strangely poetic, that their driving force is the first one to go.

Very sad to hear of his death. I loved the music of The Eagles, and always have. Always wished I had seen them live.

Shocking news. I saw the Hotel California tour in St. Louis on Tuesday, November 23, 1976. Never saw them again since tours never came close enough and in recent years too high ticket prices. But, I did realize in 1976 I witnessed one of the best bands in the business. Bought tickets at the door and got the 29th row. Still have my ticket stub.

Glenn did the the guitar solo in the studio recording of "I can't tell you why." One of my all time favs. Always wondered why he let Don do all the live stuff when he did such a beautiful job. RIP :salude

As much as I loved The Eagles, I'm still mourning Lemmy and especially Bowie. Another surprise death. At some point I'm going to revisit The Eagles and it will hit me. I lived some of these songs. They're a part of my DNA. RIP Glenn.

I too was floored. 67 is not old! Not to editorialize his death but I find it curious that with Bowie's passing, it was HUGE news on most of the usual media outlets for a solid week. There's virtually nothing on the major sites today about Frey's demise. The Eagles were one of, if not the, top selling acts of all time. Was he too "normal?"

I'd have to say the minibucker wrote what I was about to and put it quite eloquently.

RIP

It's been all over the news since last nite.

Really?? In the "in studio" Video Don does it on a ES345 I believe. It sure seemed like the actual studio recording, but I'm going on memory. Either way, great song, great solo.

Felder's playing a block neck 335 with Glen playing keyboard.

I took this shot of Glenn Frey during the Eagles last concert at the New Orleans Arena a few years ago. They were absolutely great.

Surprisingly, this was the only Les Paul I saw during the show. Walsh played Strats, a Gretch (possibly a lookalike), and a Musicman Axis. Smith played mostly Musicman guitars, but did use a vintage SG Junior on one song.

RIP, Glenn, and thanks for the music.

Frey played on the studio recording and they ip synced to that. Felder plays it (guitar)in the video because he doesn't play keyboards in real life and it would have been awkward having Glenn play guitar and Felder playing keyboards. My guess anyway.
