• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

A truly beautiful guitar. Congratulations.

I'm in the R4 camp, too. I owned a R6 for awhile to compare and for me it came down to the feel. I liked the R4 better. THe R6 was an awesome guitar and it was tough day when I sold it, but that was the decision I made and now I have to live with it.

So herb was it the neck feel(profile etc) that made the difference?

Goldtop0, I think the feel of my R4 has to do with the wraptail. It has an acoustic quality. It's a little more spongy. You can lay into it more. My neck is very thin. Almost a 60's neck, which isn't typical. However, mine is a '14 chambered 10th anniversary (from Music Zoo)so I think they made the neck thin so it wouldn't be neck heavy. But, all wraptails I have had had the same feel. Does that make sense?

Almost jumped on a nice Jr. a couple of hours ago that was priced oh so right but the wife ran interference though I had the cash.

Anyway here's the R4 and I am enjoying it;

Beautiful... a twin to my 2011 :) Mine weighs in at a featherweight 7.9 lbs and is a bell. Very early in the year at SN 014. I sold my Special to get it.. and during the past 5 years have sold my A9 335, my R9, and my CC #3 Babe, and this is now my only ride. It's good enough.

Yes it does make sense.
All the pundits extol the virtues of the wraptail compared to the abr on the R6.........will have to play an R4 someday but there are none around here to grab unfortunately.

I just went through this process and went with a used 2013 R4.

I think the R6s are cool but there's something uniquely cool looking about the R4.

The R4 I have is very close to the R6 I used to have *have a different one now).

The only noticeable difference is a little bit more upper mid response from the R4 but it's slight.

The only R4 I ever owned was so acoustically loud and resonant it was really in another league from the 3 other Lesters I owned at the time. Maybe it was just that particular guitar, a very nice Music Machine Stinger from 2003, but it was a hell of a guitar.

I use to lean towards the R6, in large part preferring the appearance while still appreciating the R4.

Now they are equal footing and I can't say I prefer one over the other.
Whichever you get ,if you get a good one, everything if fine.
