Good Morning Chaps....

Well, this is super cool. This morning I was expecting to see more pictures of the next stage but Florian has made another short video.

Enjoy.....

Super generous that Florian shares these videos for everyone on the forum to see! He’s done 5 makeovers for me - one of them being a 54 goldtop - and I can tell you that this will be a golden little beast ?. His work is unbelievably good, enjoy this project with him!

Thanks Shokry, my excitement levels have just gone up another notch.

Yes, I'm already wondering how long I can hold out before booking in another one. I have enjoyed the whole experience that much.
Judging by your impressive level 5 makeovers I'm guessing it's not going to be long. ?

Just picked up some CAB lightly aged knobs and the black historic caverty covers. Should do the trick. ?

Again, thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. It is great to revisit that feeling when Jaeger is doing his magic. You're going to love that instrument even more than before - I'm sure of that. The video is a pleasure to watch and very informative.

You made the right call on keeping the goldtop IMO and not bursting it.

It's also interesting with shades of gold, and my experience is it is soo damn hard to capture it on camera (better photographers than I can probably though).

When I got my original, I was kind of surprised by the brightness of the gold. The finish is in good shape, so maybe that's why it wasn't as dark as some goldtops look (at least on the internet). Probably the top clearcoat plays a part also. But I can tell you, a good gold finish is something truly beautiful. I really enjoy looking down while playing, because the guitar is so pretty. The warm colour of wood, the gold, and the cream P90's is a super combo.

Also, judging by previous threads, Florian makes a really good goldtop so you will be super happy.

More work on the top as the clear coat is applied.

" The first picture showes the bronze without clear coat. In the second picture you see the first clear coat applied. The top literally exploads in color, brightness, depth and life. The third and fourth pictures show the Gold Top in slightly different light situations. "

Check out that Top Carve, it looks like a Violin! ???

So here's a picture from Florians morning run. Spring has finally broken through the darkness and gloom of winter in Bavaria.

I don't think he intends for me to post these pictures but I like to share it because I think it's such a beautiful part of the world.

Back to " The Argonaut " Florian and I have been in discussions about whether or not the top needs anything else doing to it.

He says it already looks great as it is so it's a tough call. He said it has a very rich deep bronze to it with hints of green that already give it an aged look.

Having talked it over he's now going to add a very subtle bit of character to it with a slight brownish, greenish, amber tinge.

Can't wait to see this..... ?

I'm loving the look of this! That is the bomb for sure.

It's quite hard sometimes when talking things over to visualise something and know the picture in your heads are the same thing. Florian has absolutely nailed it. ????

That Top Carve is insane...

Florian had a little more to share regarding the clear coats that I found quite interesting.

" Now imagine that every upcoming clear coat is lightly ambered too. This will add depth and warmth. I store my nitro cellulose lacquer in the sun so it´s naturally ambered. "

I'm a very happy boy this Friday....

Yes, I'm really very happy with how its come out. You would'nt think it but it can be quite overwhelming trying to figure out how you want a guitar finished. I mean you can have it any way you want but you have to commit to the decision and theres alot of choices to consider. You'd think Gold was Gold right? But no, thers definitely more to it than that.

I kinda had my mind focused on how I want the back more than anything so when it came to the top I was like oh yeah, I better give some thought to this and quick.

Florian was a great help and was terrific with talking it all through to help me make the right choice. He made me a video walking the guitar around the work shop to show it in different lighting situations and it looked beautiful as it was. I was almost going to leave it as was but I'm so glad he did the other coats, it just pops now and looks really lush and Royal which is exactly what I wanted. I think its pretty special and It still has the amber coats to come.

I was saying I bought some lightly aged CAB knobs and some black control caverty covers because some of the original guitars I was looking at had the black covers and it looks better with how I want it. I got the bits from Crazy Parts one directly from their site and the other from their Reverb store.

I was going to have it sent directly to Florian but it was getting complicated so I'm having it sent to me. It should be here by Tuesday and then I'm going to send it all back to Florian. So the parts should almost be as well travelled as " The Argonaut " by the time they get there.

You probably think I'm a bit mad for doing this but Florian was talking about getting one of his friends whose into photography to get some better detailed shots of the finished article and I want her looking her best....
