• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Go on burstserial.com and scroll through the tops gallery. There are plenty that look just like yours. What is "vintage looking," anyway?

Do these look like vintage Bursts, or reissues?

Thank you. The perpetuation of this myth that original bursts are plain and irregular and if you have a flame monster it’s not “real” drives me absolutely bonkers.

There’s a huge number of bursts that show otherwise. Surely there is no internet population outside this forum that is more familiar with burstserial.com, so why the uninformed judging? Only guess I have is that opinion is spread by people trying to posture and turn their nose up at perfectly fine Les Pauls.

To the OP, love your guitar! Don’t worry about it if some folks don’t think it looks “legit” enough. I like it quite a bit.

Original bursts: some were stunning and some are plain & I’ve seen enough over the last 50+ years to know that they were hit or Miss just like in the 50’s. There are guys who work for Gibson, Hamer, Heritage, etc who just buy wood for them. Same way it was 65-70 years ago.Gibson. All those big hollow bodies had nice wood, the ones that are solid tops & backs used choice wood. I have a friend of mine in Germany who supplies nice woods to instrument manufactures around the world! Some of the woods I’ve seen at his place are stunning! His company is called
kollitz
I’ve probably known him 25+ years or more.

I believe his Grandfather started the company. My friend Oliver, who runs most of the business now is really into finding beautiful pieces of wood! He’s like a wood encyclopedi! He can look at a piece of wood and tell you what it is, where it came from, etc! A lot of the Martin Custom shop tops come from him as well as Taylor, etc.
