• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Yep have tried various sets over the decades..........Black Diamonds back in the '60s cos that's all you could get here in those draconian days, have now settled on 10-52 Rotosounds, best bang for the buck.

These are new & these take a little Hunting Paul, PS hope all is well on the other side of the pond !
I'll do a bit of sherlocking on these, see if we've got em this side yet. I do like the idea of a slightly lowered tension string. Thanks for the flag (y)

Used a company called Newtone in the UK for years on the acoustic side of things, their Heritage low tension string set at 12-51 feels like you're playing 9's...amazing feel and touch, as you allude to in the Gibson electrics.

Things are steady here Victor...holding your own that side Pal?

Take it easy my Mate.

I have yet to try 9’s on my LP, but I did notice they made my Strat (EJ sig, first model) sound ”woodier,” less of a metallic, clang to it. Compresses more. Makes me wonder if it’ll have the same on an LP.
It’s SO hard to get over the light touch required. I grew up wanting to be SRV, and played 13-58 w/ a plain 20 G for yeeeaaarrs. Now it’s a constant struggle not to throttle 10’s and squeeze out of tune. As such, I sound like I suck worse than I already do on account of trying to tiptoe around the fretboard. :D
In the strat’s case, I’d say the tone was worth it.
