• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

How could he???? Doesn't make a lick of sense. I always understood that Robin was a true tone monster. How, oh how can this be?????:hmm

A lowly R8, a Historic???? What gives, I thought all them there experts here claim it can't be. No Historic can sound or play like the Devine heaven sent dulcet tones of the mythical 1959 Les Paul BURST!!! I have read a million posts about how the newer ones are inferior and can not match the sonic majesty of the sanctified Burst?????:59gibson

Has Roben gone deaf!:pop

Just having some fun, fellas and underscoring something we seem to forget sometimes. These new Les Pauls, the Historics and True Historics, are among the very finest Les Pauls and maybe sometimes we should remember what it is that brought many of us to these fine, fine guitars. They play and sound and look GREAT!:yah:salude:dude:

Have any forum members tried these Eclair pickups? I am intrigued.

I heard him play it for about a half hour tonight at the Tupelo Hall in NH. He switched to his Tele when Johny A came out, who was playing a plain top through a reissue Bluesbreaker. Sounded great. I hope I attached the photo of the guitar and Dumble properly??!!

He's played reissues before though... he gets in the mood for an LP every now and then...

Here's a 2005 R7 that he used for a while:

Billy, the one on the right looks like yours!!:dude:

I went over Johns house yesterday to grab my KTR pedal from him. Earlier on the phone, he was asking me how the new True Historics, like the one he got for the Yardbirds tour, compare to originals. I tried to explain to him they are as close as you can get with a new one sometimes. Its an impossible question. When I was leaving to go over to his house, my burst was handy as I've been using it again in one of my bands. So I just grabbed it so John could do an A/B with his TH thru his own amp, in his studio. When I got there he was pleasantly surprised I brought it. We did the A/B thru his 18 w. Then he mentioned that was going to sit in with Robben Ford that night at Tupelo. He joked that it would be a mind blower to pull my '60 out of his gig bag. So I said take it. I wasn't gonna use it last night, I planned on taking my Strat. They had fun. :salude

Robben mentions that he felt he should have at least one PAF Les Paul in his collection. He says he is not thrilled with the weight of a Les Paul which is why he uses his vintage SG more. :salude

He liked the 8lb 1oz weight of mine. There are Historics that are light and they still make the Cloud 9's? So he has options. :spabout

Very cool. So how did Johnny feel the TH compared to the original?
