• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

RS Fralins (originals) - still do it for me after 6 years!

These are hands down the BEST PAF style pickups I've played. I bought them from Roy when they first came out at the Chicago guitar show 6 years ago. I installed them in my 95 Custom Shop LP Custom 6 years ago:

She's a COOL black LP with dark blue sparkle "hot rod ghost flames." She looks pure black from 3 feet away. One of my favorites. Middle pickup is still a 57 Classic.

Anyway - playing her all night. They still do it! All that "PAF" like magic is still there - just amazing tone. Clear and punchy with a bright snappy tone in this guitar - but, still warm and creamy where I need it! The Neck pickup is just SO clear and bell like. It just RINGS!

I hear the "True 60s" are amazing but - NO reason to change these ever, and I would HANDS down by another set if I needed pure PAF tone for another LP!

Any other fans!

I use the True 60's myself. They are also great pickups. I won't say they sound sound just like PAFs, because I don't believe there is anything such thing as a definitive PAF that one could duplicate, but, they sound very vintage like and incredible standing on their own merits.
I am very happy that you are also pleased with you RS pickups.
Have fun!

True 60's devotee here. Best PAF style replica's I've had the pleasure of playing.

I'm not a fan of 100% PAF tones or a 100% high output, modern tone for what I am currently doing. The regular Fralin PAF gives me more body than a true PAF clone but the output of one. I like them best of all PAF types I've had in my Les Pauls. Now if only I still had a Les Paul...

The Psychebillies are Alnico 2; the "regular" RS/Fralins are Alnico 4. I think the True 60s are Alnico 2 as well.

A set of True 60's in my Historic LP/SG. That guitar sings now like it didn't before. My favorite pickups are the True 60's, Holmes 450/455, and Throback SLE101 Ltd's. Got one or the other in my SG, V, and LP and would load my ES355 if I wasn't so adverse to the hassle factor.
