• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Say what?

Has anyone ever seen *real* wear like this on a Les Paul, reissue or vintage, around a thumbwheel? This really makes me question the competence of some "ageing" practitioners.

I think the peter Green Burst??

No. Greeny has it around the bridge pup ring. This one looks like they adjusted the treble side of the bridge every time they changed strings or someting, but not the bass side.

While not a Les Paul, I used to own a heavily played 1960 cherry red ES 335 which had those type of marks around the thumbwheels.

The ABR-1 'sat' very low and I'm pretty sure that some of the damage was partly due to the thumbwheels being clumsily adjusted by pliers when the strings were under tension by a previous owner.

It looks like the owner anchored with their pinky. My Telecaster is worn that way- over 1/16" into the wood! I had no idea I even had this habit.

So mine will have a spot where the 20 pound concrete coffee can sits?

Our Historics will never age like that in a million years.

Well, I disagree. My conversion has wear from my fingers by the bridge pup after 28 years that is very similar to the Peter Green Les Paul. Since the guitar in question is refinished, presumably with nitro, I expect it could as well. I just had never seen (or remembered) any vintage Les Pauls that had that wear-I was wrong.

I had a Les Paul I bought used that looked like someone had repeatedly use a set of channelock pliers to turn the thumbwheels.
