• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

My '07 LPDC Pro has light scratches where the pick hits
the finish (no pickguard).
I have to look close to see them so they don't distract from the appearance.
Is there anything I could / should do to protect the finish;
will it worsen over time?
I notice many LP's without a pickguard......what do they do.....live with it?

Seriously, enjoy the ride!
Marks and wear are evidence of a well-loved guitar. "Worsen" over time?? ...nah, it gets better! Clean it if you like, polish it if you prefer, but let the marks happen. That, friend, is real mojo :)

I know I might be pushing the envelope, here - but why not put a pickguard on it??

"pick" - "guard" - see what they are saying there?:)

Comfort level and aesthetics. Some prefer the non-pg look while for others it is a must.

FWIW, my LPC is white, and all the black plastic hw and ebony board contrast so beautifully against the white body I couldn't bear thinking of not having the pg. Yet on my Standard, I love the figuring so much, and how the flamed grain interacts with the burst, I was very glad to have found a clear pg so I can retain the look of the wood. Yeah, it sounds a bit shallow, but lets face it, we gotta love how our LPs look ...not to mention I simply prefer it as a finger rest for the feel, but with a nice-looking top, I'd admittedly be tempted to leave it off. To each his own, of course.

I recently removed the PG from my BB LPC.
I love it more without.
Bought it new in 1976.

it looks better the more "love" it gets. dont worry too much about it. all your favorite guitar players have beat up guitars. you cant truly play a guitar and keep it mint.
