had my 2019 R0 at Gibson Repair and Restoration for fret level/Plek and to replace the steel thumb wheels and bridge post to nickel plated brass

got it back and it still has steel bridge post

they said on the phone today, we don't use nickel plated brass bridge post and haven't since the 60's

this info came from the Gibson Repair and Restoration and not the Custon Shop or Murphy Lab departments, BUT

i have two Custom Shop Historic Reissue Les Pauls, one is a 62 STD and the other a R0, both from 2019 and both have STEEL bridge post

COULD YOU PLEASE check your Custom Shop and/or Murphy Lab Les Paul and report back on if your bridge post are STEEL or NICKEL PLATED BRASS

thanks so much

Say for instance they are nickel plated brass , to my naked eye it will look like nickel . How am I supposed to know what is underneath the nickel ?

I always replace mine with a 2", 6/32" Brass post. The 2" gets it into the wood farther and transfers more string vibrations into the wood.

The Custom Shop say it is brass. When I changed mine to a nickel plated brass, there wss an improvement in the overall sound. No matter what, I don't think it is brass.

going to do the swap from the steel to the brass post sent by Gibson

big bends nut sauce on the threads for some lube

but first
sent a tooth pick down the hole to check depth (wanted to know where bottom is so i can mark post so i don't over tighten) and found the holes are little deep. keeping the same action (top side of the adjuster thumb wheel is a little lower than a 1/4", to give you/anyone an idea) , if i were to bottom out the post, there wouldn't be much left for the bridge to sit on, maybe 1/8"

should I
bottom the post out and have minimal holding the bridge in place?
not bottom the post out and go same depth as they are now?
get longer post and bottom them out and cut to length?

is there a tonal difference between hitting bottom and not hitting bottom ?
