• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hey guys,

I’m looking at purchasing one of these...Does anyone know what type of custom shop reissue this is?

The COA just reads ‘LP SG Custom’...is it a ‘60 ,63 etc?

Cheers

Good question. Gibson changed to that style trem in the latter part of '63.... and of course, Les had pulled out by then....

Maybe this is a copy of a rare crossover between those dates, but I always thought the changes happened at the same time.

As far as I know the current RI is either '61 (no vibrola, "Les Paul" on headstock) or '64 (with Vibrola, no "Les Paul" on headstock)

This is a 2008 model.

Any idea which year they reissued in 2008?

Cheers!
I believe during the year this was made it was called a '61 reissue but the vibrola isn't true to '61. The same guitar in the current catalog is called a '63 and the '61 SG Custom has a sideways vibrola.

I wasn't attracted to SGs for years then I got one on trade and now 12 years later I just got my 3rd one and I love em all haha!

Ah right...cheers for that!

Strange how the COA has no date on it at all...the finish is also VOS and again no mention of it on the COA.

Any thoughts?

I have a COA with my 2006 '61 SG standard, they didn't say the date probably because the date is in the serial number. Sometimes a retailer is selling a new guitar 2 or more years after manufacture so it's not in their best interest to have an artificial deterrent in the customer's face like that because it shouldn't make a difference.

I'm pretty sure all reissues are VOS. The meaning of VOS changed after they started by the way but that's another topic -

It first implied that the guitars were made to vintage original specs but when people pointed out how many things were still not "correct" they changed it to a thing about the finish, but even the finish isn't the same as we all know. I have a bunch of them from '97-'21 and I love them as they are so I don't sweat the minutia

Have fun with it!
