• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Share your FUZZ tones please....!

The Fuzz that started it all……. Mine is a FZ1A but I have a 1964 EB-0F with an original FZ1 built in. Why Gibson chose to build this in a bass instead of a guitar is still a mystery to me. It sounds like an electric fart!

Andertons has a good Fuzz Guide

and recently dove into more early fuzz reproductions

I thought it was worth the watch, but of course I love Tone Benders for all the right reasons.

I’ve never recorded anything with it. It actually has quite a delay when you switch the Fuzztone on. They only shipped 265 of these from 1962-65. If they would have sounded good, they would have sold many more……….

Great man ! It is because of the Fractal that I started to experiment with the fuzzes and really loved the fuzz faces and the other two you mentioned !

Fuzz has been my big "can't get" on my rig. Maybe it's because I've always been thrived for the moderately driven Blues tone. Sometimes I like gritty drive (which I use my Mooer RumbleDrive), but most of the time I enjoy a more smooth drive (Boss OS-2). But I've always been trying to get the Allman Brothers tone (think Soulshine). If I want that tone, right now I just grab a LP, go to the neck pickup, crank it up a couple notches, and let the amp do the work. My Fuzz is just a EH Nano-Muff, which works when you want some crunch in your freeform blues. I use it very moderately. I need to get into the JHS Pedals because Josh makes some absolutely incredible sounding pedals.

Maestro is marketing five new pedals, one being a Fuzztone FZ-M. “A tribute to the classic tone that started it all. Two-in-one analog functionality for increased sonic versatility with both an FZ-1 inspired fuzz sound and a thicker, more modern fuzz tone.” I just received this months VG in the mail. Maestro took out six full pages to advertise their new pedals………

@Grog - I love seeing the old '45 and the original instructions to the FZ-1A! Always cool to see stuff like that survive. I've got both versions (early and late) of the EB-OF and love them, but agree that the Fuzz circuit doesn't sound great with the lower register stuff. Even still, every time I pick one up I cant help but play Sunshine of Your Love just because I think it sounds cool.

My favorite Fuzz from the 60's is the Ampeg Scrambler though. Works great with everything, got mine from on organ player that used it with an old Wurlitzer.

My first amp as a kid was a Mosrite Award Amplifier. It had a Fuzzrite built in which was pretty cool at the time. The amp itself was very unreliable. Wildwood is selling this one…………
