• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I like this guitar sound wise. It sounds very nice with the stock Classic 57's. It has a nice weight, at 7.0 lbs, and my only criticism is that the neck is just a touch too thin for my taste.

The thing that bugs me about it most however is a superficial concern. I don't like the barbeque top that much. If I had to do it again, I'd get a plain top. So, I was actually thinking of refinishing it, in....silver sparkle! Right now money is also quite tight, so my question is who would do the best job for a reasonable price?

What do you guys think about Silver Sparkle on this guitar? Yay, or Nay?

There are far worse 'barbecue' tops than that one.
Not to mention, since its a cs336, there never was a vintage version,
so there's no point in vintage correct anyway.

It's fine, I'd leave it alone.:) :)

....yes :wah

That's a negative Ghost rider, the pattern is full.

I'm not sure what that means, but I thank you for your support :2cool

I'm really surprised that everyone is hating the idea :wow

Thanks a lot for all of your input, it really does help

Well, I think silver sparkle would be cool. Especially if you gig with the guitar, it would look good under the lights and really be different.

Probably would lower resale value. But it's your guitar...have fun with it!

If it makes you happy, do it. If you don't plan on selling it anytime soon have it refinished as you want.

I think that top is pretty ugly. But that finish probably also came w/a darkback, so if it were mine I'd make it a Goldtop. If I were doing the whole thing then I'd make it whatever shade of blue the EE SGs are (Pelham Blue?). Now THAT would look killer!

Cogs has the idea......make it a Gold Top! That would really suit that guitar.

Pelham Blue would be outstanding on that guitar, but I agree that you should leave it as it looks very nice as it is.

Hmm Pelham blue, never thought of that, intriguing..

Gold Top...yes I have thought of that too! But then I'd want to change the plastic on it to cream as I'm not sure I like black plastic on a gold top.

Actually, this might be sacrilegious in essentially a Gibson guitar Forum, but another thought I had is maybe sell it and get something like a Gretsch Duo Jet, or Power Jet..

I do have a GO, and honestly, even though there are differences of course, the tonal pallet is not that earth-shateringly different between the two..

Thanks again for all of your input.

Make it a Sweet Cherry and that will keep the translucence for some figure peeking, but remove some of the BBQ :salude

But really, it is not too bad...
