• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Should I trade my 2016 G0 for a 2006 R7 Darkback Goldtop ?

Hey there guys,

Title says it all, I need your wise advice (Again), should I trade my 2016 Bourbon Burst G0 for a 2006 Goldtop R7 (Darkback).

I know the R7's have big necks (which I love), I know I've always wanted a nice Goldtop but, what about Sound?, Pickups?, Value?, I'm a little bit lost there... It would be awesome if you can enlight me with your guidance, thanks!

I don’t know anyone else could help you make a decision like that ?? Do you not know what you want?? The 06 is not nearly as historically accurate as the newer one. The color was not even close on those gold tops. But none of that should even matter. Play them and pick the one that suits YOU best. I would pick the one that sounded the best. Simple.

they are the same guitar construction wise....except 2016 used hide glue for the fingerboard and neck joint, 2006 used Franklin Titebond
2016 CustomBuckers, 2006 BurstBucker 1 & 2's ( I think pre 2005 were BB 2 & 3's IIRC) anyway...2006 still had the truss rod sheath.
People knock the BB's.... but some love them. You'd have to play both.
as for value , with both in the same good to very good condition, (and assuming the G0 is a plaintop) they should fetch roughly $3k for the GT and $3.2k for the G0... +/-
I know I know....the guys on Reverb want $4k...... Lets be realistic here...actually selling price, that you list and sell in 10-15 days....thats how I'm basing my price guesstimate.
You could sell the G0 and buy a post 2014 R7 GT. You'd have all of the updates. But you'd have to put out another $400-$600 possibly
Best Wishes with whatever you do

Thanks guys!, I was doing my research on the web too, I'm gonna pass on the trade. As much as I love Goldtops, I'll rather save up and get me on of those later on. I've found out that my G0 is one of those "Beauty of The Burst" edition ones, that explains the beautiful flame top on mine, here she is:

A wise decision I’ll say. Chances are you would be regretting parting with that beauty somewhere down the line.

I would most certainly keep that beauty of a burst as she is fine !
