• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Should I trade my SG Standard + G0 for a 57 Custom Black Beauty RI (3 pickup)

Hello "Les Pauleans", I would like to see what you think on this. A buddy of mine is offering me to trade his 2011 Les Paul Custom 1957 Black Beauty Reissue (3 Pickup version) for my 2016 G0 + my 2013 SG Standard, I love Black Customs!, but I'm not sure if It's worth giving another Historic + a Gibson USA guitar for it...

Tell him your not too far apart..but if he could sweeten the deal a bit you might be convinced to do the trade..otherwise you should do it amyways..but only if his black beauty is pristine..I have black lps and strats and even the slightest ding or scratch will drive you insane!!..or maybe its my meds...lol..

tell me more about the 57

is it a maple top ?
what type tuners are they ?
what is the weight ?
what kind of serial number does it have ... does the serial number start with CS XXXX ?
What does the cert book say ?

reason for all the questions is there is a "killer" version of the black beauty
and then there is a bullshit "semi right" version

give me the info and I can tell you which it is

No , I have not . Where I was coming from was the in balance of the trade where the other party walks away with 2 instruments including an GO and a SG . Not a fair trade value wise .

If its a '57 Reissue BB, it would a Historic with a 7 XXXX serial number and have a 'hog top. Also the "CS" serial number Customs (maple top) do not (typically) come in 3 pick-up unless it's an M2M or special order. Considering its a 2011 BB, I'd say its probably a Historic.
But good questions nonetheless. I'd want to know (especially) the weight. Those suckers average in the high 9 - low 10 lb range.....yikes...back breakers!!!
My guess is a 2016 G0 in nice shape and depending on top, would be worth roughly 2800-3000.00. The SG probably in the $1k range. If the BB7 is light and in great shape, an even swap isn't horrible...I'd put the Custom in the 3400-3700 range....
but as you stated, a lot of variables here. I'd say give him the G0 and 600 bucks and call it even

If its not the ALL MAHOGANY body , I would defiantly hold off . 2013 had the Mahogany body .

If the guitar was built after November 2011 two piece fingerboard.

Although I love Triple pickup 57 LPC's , this trade is in favor for one particular person not you .

Disclaimer : Although the wind from this deal has a foul odor, Butt man says no way !

Ok

You guys see where I was coining from with the questions

if its a ALL mahogany body - proper non CS serial number - proper non grover tuner - bb 57 paperwork and the son of a bitch is ultra light at around 8 lbs even .... heck yea its a OK deal

I would do the trade if it sounds good. If it's dark and murky with no treble sting I would run away. Screaming No moaners for meeeeeeeeee

You can check top buy looking in the control cavity.
To me, it does not matter what top it has or if it's a two-piece fretboard.
You want one that SOUNDS GOOD!

Also it needs a Bigsby and again check that it is bright sounding.

Having owned and played 3 PU guitars I WILL caution:

Depends on your picking.

Since I do it all wrong the middle one gets in my way.

But they ARE nice guitars...

This subjective thread , post #9 I will explain .

I have not -will not trade guitars the guitars I own I really like, none of my Historic's will be sold or traded till I decide to liquidate.

34 years of brick & motor business ownership if you have something I want I pay you , Vise Versa .

You may regret this trade , middle pickup = issues for some .

If this is your only guitar you really give this some serious thought .

I believe your G0 is a Guitar Center R0 very nice guitar .

Although currently I do not own a SG I have owned several over the past 45+ years Tone .

Free advice well you know and all this is coming from a guy that can shop guitars for a year .

And I do know people that avoid the middle pickup by removing .

We have to be related . Here is why . I also do not trade or sell , because I have a list of wants and I do my homework and research and make as best of a choice as I can when it's time to purchase . Most of the time it's when I have the money or it becomes available and then I have to pounce as I learned a long time ago that procrastination will not get me the product that I want ( we will leave "need" out of it as I could not justify more than half or more of anything I do ) . Once it's in my possession than I either play it a lot or once in a while . The general thought I have is that maybe today it's not my cup of tea , but maybe tomorrow I will need it for something . Also it's good to have choices .
