• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Shout Out to Elliot Easton, et al

In a world that’s now gone nuckin futz, I was happy listening to The Cars first album on a walk this morning and I declare, it still stands. It stands as a feel good testament to the simple things of requited and unrequited love of days gone by. And by God, there’s many a rhythm hook and tasty Les Paul lick in there for good measure, too. Go back and listen to, “You’re all I’ve got Tonight.” Not your cup of tea? In my opinion, it was solid rock and roll with a new twist, back in the day.

Thanks, Elliot. ‘Let the good times roll.’ (again)

The world was pretty nuckin' futz in 1978 -- it just had far better music to fall back on. And yeah, the Cars' first album is awesome, not least of which because of Elliot's playing. :dude::dude::dude::dude:

I was 22 at the time and music was pretty much my world. Well, that and the opposite sex. Ok, and maybe a good doob. I guess there’s a few things I miss besides my youth!

Yeah,The Cars are really fucking good. :dude::peace2

Agreed. But...on a forum where tone, technique, idiom and provenance are cussed and discussed ad nauseam, I thought I might meet some resistance on a Cars post. Seems some appreciatiate a good tune when they hear one.

Don’t get me wrong, Beano, Allman, Kossoff, Bloomfield, Bonamassa, Page... notwithstanding, sometimes a good hook along with a bitch that don’t love me fits the bill too!

The Cars and Candy-O were the soundtrack to my 12th and 13th years. And I go back to them over and over again. :dude::dude::dude:

Everything that was cool about them then is still cool now.

Taking a date home "to listen to records" putting on Candy-O works like Billy Dee Williams' Colt 45.

Candy-O was my first Cars Album. It’s interesting, it was so outside of what my typical taste was at the time (Zeppelin, Maiden, Scorps ...ect.) and never really thought of Elliot in the context of a killer player - oh how time has made me wiser. I always liked them ‘cause of their great songs - but now I also like them because EE KILLS!

I hadn’t realized that The Cars were inducted into the hall of fame this past April. Congrats!
