• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I was looking at different options for a 50s or 60s USA Les Paul Standard. Musicians Friend caught my eye because of 48 months at 0%. However MF does not post pictures or the weight of the actual guitar you are buying. Especially with a AA top and especially with the weight variance of these guitars 11 pounds down to 8.5 who makes such a purchase? I spoke to a rep at MF and buyer is on the hook for return shipping if you are dissatisfied with appearance or weight of the guitar. Maybe I'm too old to order a grab bag. Just wondering who buys these. If I'm spending almost $3000 with tax I need more info.

I've bought quite a few LPs online and have yet to be disappointed. Solids and plain tops I will roll the dice on... but flame tops I will not buy without a pic first. Try AMS, they show pics of the premium tops and have lots of payment options. Sweetwater shows pics of all their guitars, but fewer payment options.

I guess I'll just narrow my search to used guitars. never dissapointed when buying used.

It amazes me that in this day and age GC and MF can't be bothered to take pictures of $2000+ instruments. Buy from a dealer that will show you what you are getting. Even better, spend the extra $300 and get a wildwood spec. You'll have your pic of amazing tops, Wildwood spec tribute pickups, set up to your desired spec's AND a free T-shirt. Plus no tax (depending on what state you are in) and free shipping.

The sad part is, from around 2012-2014, GC was taking photos of *every* Gibson in their inventory, not just Platinum guitars or even Custom Shop guitars. I bought a 2014 R0 from them in Dark Burst and probably looked through 50 of the same guitar at various locations around the country. Ended up finding the one I wanted in FL and had it shipped to MA. They did a *really* good job of it, but I'm guessing someone decided they were spending too much in labor to do it so they stopped it. Shame too, because I probably would have bought from them again if they hadn't stopped it.

I agree. I’ve purchased 8 guitars from Wildwood via their online store and have never been disappointed. One of the few places I’d buy from without first handling/playing the guitar. Quite a few of my guitars were demo’ed by Greg Koch. One time he even did a back to back shootout of three guitars I was interested in. If any of that isn’t possible anymore you can request a video of the guitar being played by someone else in the shop. They have the weights of all of their listed guitars as well as nice photos. Good luck on your quest!
