• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Simple question ..... what is the coolest non Gibson guitar ?

Gretsch 6120.
Coolest guitar bar none - only guitar ever made where everyone looks cools with one round their neck.

Other guitars do the job better, but none are cooler.

Alternatively, Ibanez ICEman is fairly breezy.

If the OP was asking about "Gibson Style", it is this:

Otherwise it is a tie between a 1956 Mary Kay Strat and a 1950 Broadcaster.

BC Rich guitars, Warlock's, Mockingbird's. I can't think of another manufacturer that has come up with unique designs rather than rip off LP's, Strat's, Explorer's, V's etc. Most of BC's designs are unique. I like pointy guitars.

I've always thought Eddie Van Halens white/black and Bumblebee Strats were some of the coolest looking guitars ever. Pretty cool how he took a body shape that everybody knows and totally turned it into something that became so "him."

I would never want one, but I do admire his inventiveness.

That reminds me of the first electric I played, was our drummer's older brother's guitar and he "went acoustic", so he lent it to me for a while.

Looked cool, easy to play, but the pick ups were weak and I had no $s for a boost pedal. Could never figure out what to do with all of the switches, the markings were worn off.

Joined the LP club in 1973 with a Deluxe, and then swapped out the mini hum buckers with P90s from a 1956 GT that got PAFs. Strong pick ups and I got some leads to play as a result.

I would probably say the Paul Reed Smith Alex Lifeson signature model acoustic guitar.

Sure, most everyone on the LPF can't play the opening to A Farewell To Kings to save their life, but it's worth owning a guitar by the Rush man himself.

Strats get that in between sound I don't get from anything else.

But, I'm always hitting that pickup switch when its on neck pos, I cant lean on the bridge without throwing the guitar out of tune, and why is that darn volume there? I'm always hitting it. Other than that... :)
My bridges are all on the deck. Press on 'em all you want. Saddles nice and high for easy good palm-muting. Neck tone control moved to bridge pickup. Hitting the volume knob? yeah, but also wrapping my pinky around it for cool swells and such.

Too common to be cool? like a Deuce coupe, a '57 chevy, or a good pair of jeans. That 1960 strat I posted will always be cool as hell.

And this one is pretty cool too. Goboja Amplification MR2000 Dearmond style pickups, VIP Pots, Black Beauty PIO caps, 20:1 Gotoh 510 style tuners
