• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

What is the best current or recent production single channel tube amp priced $1000 or lower? I'm looking for a 45 to 50 watt head to be paired with a 4x12 Greenbacks cab that does a good OD crunch/lead but also cleans up nicely using the guitar volume knob. I'm a big EL34 fan, but certainly open to suggestion. I'm making the switch from multi channel back to single channel. I'd like for this config to work well with as many music styles as possible, with the exception of high gain.

Like so many other things, there's isn't a best amp. It depends on what you want to hear - are you looking for something to stay clean, to break up quickly, etc?
What kind of tones are you looking for? |Marshall-esque? |Fender? Vox? etc etc.
I would really advise to play as many amps as you can, and see what really floats your boat. Also, almost any classic sircuit is not made by any number of boutique builders, so you may find if you like (for instance) the Marshall Bluesbreaker circuit, it's made by a million different builders now, one of them will likely be in your price range.

To answer your question, in the amps that I've owned, EL34 tubes were in the ones that I've liked the most so, of your choices, Marshall-esque would the tone I'm looking for. Unfortunately, I don't have much of a selection of amps to try out in my location, at least ones that I would like to consider, so I'm reaching out on the forum for suggestions.

Can you suggest some Marshall Bluesbreaker circuit amps that I should consider?
