• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I have been told that for 2023 the 59 Greeny is coming and it will be Murphy Lab Aged. I am sure everyone knows this is the guitar owned by Peter Green, Gary Moore, and currently under the guardianship of Kirk Hammett. I am told by reliable sources there will be 2 versions and this will be a limited build allocated to dealers based on sales and territory however Gibson wont disclose how many they will build but will fill all dealer allocation orders available in 2023 only.

Version 1: Aged in the Murphy Lab and allocated to dealers. MSRP $14,999.

Version 2: Gibson Garage version only. Gibson will fly you to Nashville and you will get your guitar at the Gibson Garage with a meet & greet and photo op with Kirk Hammett and rumored that Kirk will sign your guitar. MSRP $49,999.

A dealer friend of mine joked that Garage version will come with a foot massage by Kirk! :giggle:

my initial thoughts are

version one, for 15k better at least have a Brazilian fret board, resonate and sustain for days.

also at this price point it needs to pass the 10-guitar blindfold test, it cannot sound average

version two, play and sound wise needs to exceed version one

as far as signature goes, my personal view is that Dave Mustain is a much better musician and player than Kirk will ever be and for that reason I am out.

and if I'm brutally honestly, i think Robert Trujillo is better guitar player than Kirk ,

anyway if I was a collector with spare cash, version one for me. I can get a pic and sig later on

Just make sure you tell Kirk what you think of his playing before you ask him to sign the guitar.

Douche.
that wouldn't be very smart if I were a collector and wanted maximum value for my investment

but afterwards, i wouldn't have a problem saying he's not in the same league as Green and Moore. But why would I, there's no point in doing so - just my view

my guess is, you're a Donkey

They may get it to look like Greeny, but not a cat in hell's chance of getting it to sound like the original.

The most extraordinary Les Paul I've ever played, a voice all of it's own.

It remains the one for me.

I'm past commenting on Gibson's pricing/marketing, I'm boring myself.

Kirk Hammett is one very talented guitarist and caretaker of a very significant piece of musical history and the beauty part about it is that he actually plays the Greenie Burst and uses it live on stage . Thus he graciously shares the wonderful vintage sonic charm !

Yo! Holee-o!

You are rockin' old skool.

The kids here on site have informed me that you should use "douche BAG" instead'a 'Douche'.

Apparently they think the container more important than the product.

In which case I suspect they are more interested in Greenys CASE than the actual guitar...

But I digress.

HOW YA DOIN' DOWN UNDA?

the idea of greeny is wonderful, but the price point is outa the realm of possibility for most regular plays, chalk this up as another guitar for people to look at but most likely not play all that much.

a good R9 with the pick up flipped will do the job of what ever guitar they attach peters name to. and thats the guy we are all after here, i doubt anyone combing the les paul forum is super excited for a kirk hammet signature les paul. gary moore might get you 10% of the sales but 90% of the people interested in reallying buying this thing are in it for the Green connection.

An iconic guitar, that changed hands under shady circumstances (to whom also owned another stolen burst), and now ends up with a weedley deedley guitarist…I think it should be put to rest at this point.

But I do not fault Gibson for making a model commemorating the original legacy, and charging whatever they feel they want to…nobody is forcing anyone to buy it.

I missed out on the first run and I love that guitar, I was saving up my bitcoins for one but that's not happening anymore so I'm out...

Missed out? Go the M2M route and build your guitar to your exact specs...weight, neck profile and request or actually have your dealer pick you a top that's close to a Greeny and paint the same color.
Or do you absolutely have to have the model designation of a Greeny?
A few years back a friend was complaining he missed out on the 1st Duane Allman run back in 2003. I told him to do an M2M. Tell your dealer you want a chevron top and paint it the same color as the DA run.
BAM.....7 months later he had one that was as close to the original as possible and cost $14k less than an advertised used one.
