• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Since this old thread of mine has resurfaced, I saw the Doll's at the Forum in London on Sunday and they were great.
Unfortunately my camera broke and the camera on my phone sucks, anyone got any pic's to share of the man on their recent dates.
Love his white LP Supreme btw.

I have known (I was friends with his sister)and seen Steve play since we were teenagers, he has always been a real cool guy and a GREAT player. His brother John is a great bassist also. Believe me he is playing the Dolls stuff like it should be played. I have seen him play everything from Southern Rock to fusion and he is awesome player. His entire family are really nice people.....

Regarding David J resembling Mick Jagger........

I saw Hubert Sumlin a few years ago at a college in Manchester, CT. David J was the lead vocalist and they were playing all of the classic Chess recordings.

For about half the show I thought David J was Mick Jagger in disguise playing the old blues classics with an old friend.

I got to meet Hubert that day and shake his hand, what a great day.

I spent last year as guitar tech for the Dolls. Since they were the first band that I ever saw live (1974), it was a honor to be part of the resurgence.

Steve Conte is the real deal. A terrific guitarist, he was in one of my other favorite bands, "Company Of Wolves" with his equally talented brother. In the Dolls, he does a great job of nearly filling Johnny's shoes, but he adds more than a look to the band. His playing and presence bring new life to the older songs, and the new songs are excellent. Of course, I am a fan, but if you go see them now, you will be one as well.

Some pics from a few shows...

And anyone that gets the album, I can brag that I got a "Thank you" in the credits!!! One of the highlights of my life, to be named on an album by a band that I first say 30 years earlier.

Cool shots BCR/Greg, thank you.
What gear (guitars/pedals/amps) was Steve using? If you don't mind me asking.
Cheers :salude

Hello,
I am the Dolls' Tour manager and Sound engineer. On the recent UK tour, Steve was using a JCM 800 with an Orange 4X12. He only uses a boost pedal with a B&W checkerboard finish, I can't remember who built the pedal. The gear was rented for the tour. I think Steve is perfect for the Dolls, he understands the balance between chaos and order haha.

There's playing with attitude/slop, and there's not knowing the songs. In the video linked to in this thread, he didn't seem to know the songs...or the key they were in.

But that's all I've got to go by, as I don't really go in for the "reunion" stuff, in general. If you guys say he was just having a bad night, I'll take your word for it. :salude

BCR/Greg, Thanx for the pics! C.O.W. is still one of my favorite bands. I bought their "black" album at a county fair back in'92 or '93. If I bought one more, then they each were like $2 cheaper. So I looked through the bins and bought this album on the cover alone and its still one of my top 10.

I remember Steve Conte Putting Johnny Thunders down in a Post years ago.Steve Conte said all of Johnny Thunders guitar licks where simple and basic and had no problem playing them(TO ME THATS A PUT DOWN}All of a sudden lately he said what a great guitar player JT was.First off The NY Dolls did not sound like the NY Dolls with him as lead guitar at all.(Listen to Jet Boy}Now Steve Conte plays with Michael Monroe and the Band blowsssss(Not like Hanoi Rocks}To me all the albums with David Johansen and Steve Conte should have been called the David Johansen Band and NOT the NY Dolls.
When Johnny and Jerry left the Dolls, the Dolls were dead.................JT

In many ways Sylvain Sylvain was the heart of the New York Dolls in my humble opinion. I had the pleasure of meeting him and hanging out a bit with him and a group of friends that knew him, after an amazing show at the old Alā€™s bar in Lost Angeles in around 1996. Much later we became Facebook friends. He was a lovely human being and an American RocknRoll treasure. He sadly passed away after a battle with cancer on Jan 2021.
RIP Sylvain Mizrahi

Dude needs to learn the pentatonic scale. Wrong notes everywhere in that solo. "Right, it's in E, dude. At least Johnny was f%#ked up when he couldn't play it."

Does David J. look like a weird Mick Jagger separated-at-birth thing or is it just me?

I was always under the impression that David's entire modus operandi was to look like Mick's slighty taller American twin .

Michael Monroe would be great band if he would still be playing with Any McCoy.
As for Steve Conte,I never said anything bad about him but he is a ordinary guitar play
that I cannot see where people would jump up and down.
He would not make the best of 200 guitar players out there........>JT
