• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

It would be nice to see some pictures of the problem in order to see exactly what the complaint is

Flaking around the neck joint from what I recall Cogs........not a pretty sight but not a biggie in my books either, an easy fix.

Wow what a masterful spin job:
1) people don’t know what they’re doing/not used to old-style finishes

2) we have have some genuine vintage guitars here that have flaked off the same way, it’s historically accurate!
See, it’s not Gibson’s mistake, it’s yours and if it happens it’s supposed to.

Yuck and not desirable . I wonder if fellow Forum members find this appealing enough to purchase ?

I'm just as happy with a nicely finished (shiny) guitar, as well as with a nicely relic'ed one, and relic'ed / weathered guitars and patinas is something our workshop is kind of reputed for ; but THIS is just a f*cked up attempt at a paint job! Whether someone likes it or not, whatever floats your boat I guess, but this looks plain wrong! Razor bladed checking was done better actually...!

Ohhhh!!
I feel sorry for you wild.joz you have spend a small furtune and got a guitar with unaceptable flaws.
Send the damn thing back and get a refond, buy a decent R8 or R9 then send it to Historic Makeovers
to get a guitar that both looks and feels old. Those guys know what they are doing compare to the
clown Tom Murphy.

No no no, you got me wrong. This is not my guitar. I should have mentioned it (will edit the original post). I found the pictures on a similar thread on the gear page, here:

Appalling, maybe. That's something that absolutely should not happen on a brand new guitar. IIRC the ES 295 in the all-gold is somewhat prone to this; the folish flaking off, but again those are the old ones that it happens to.
