• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Survey : if the Historics were made in China but half the price - would you buy one ?

Leaving aside the Chinese question, and the overt racism on display in this thread.

There are plenty of people on this sacrosanct forum who'll buy fakes within the same spec parameters as stated by the OP other than the fact that they're not endorsed by Gibson. One can even post pictures of them to an adoring section of this most discerning Forum, sans the fake Gibson headstock logo of course, as though that disassociates the platform they're afforded from said larceny in anything other than the most tissue thin sleight of hand way.

I don't believe any of them are made in China.

Glass houses don't lend themselves to stone throwing.

I'm English, Made in America means absolutely fuck all to me.

Furthermore, it was Us, the English who saved the Les Paul from the toilet, our bands that brought your revered iconic guitar back to life, and back to you.

You're fookin welcome.
It would appear you don’t understand the meaning of racism or overt. Overt Racism is for example what the Woke Left tries to teach in schools. That white people are inherently racist privileged oppressors and non white people are open minded, peaceful victims. Virtue based on skin color. The only other major Western political party to advocate teaching racial grievance theory in the classroom was the Nazi party. About as overtly racist as you can get.

Separating people and dehumanizing them into identity collectives based on race is overt racism. Calling out a Communist authoritarian regime for crimes against humanity is the productive exercise of freedom of speech. But typical of the intolerant racist Woke Left, Uyghur genocide is invisible while Multimillionaire media and sports celebrities are oppressed.

Maybe that BS flies in some ivory tower safe space but it doesn’t fly in the real unwoke world friendo.

sorry you clearly have no idea what racism is, try to spent less time on Fox or OAN and maybe travel a bit and see the world before making these statements

I have never bought a fake. I have never entertained the thought. I have never bought a Chinese or Indonesian made guitar. My first guitar was given to me by my parents was a Memphis Les Paul copy. That's just me and I don't judge others if they do buy them. I do chuckle when someone says their (put country here) made guitar is just as good as a finely crafted guitar made in America.

.....and racism? Give me a fucking break. I love how folks will pull that bullshit out thinking it will shut down the other side. Well this pinko, Lefty Liberal, never voted Republican guy is calling you out on that.

Lastly, who was arguing about English rock stars and Les Pauls? Yeah, you all did help bring back the Burst along with reminding us about the Blues. I'm eternally grateful.
You do me a disservice Pat. Shutting the other side down? Not a bit of it, I want this quarterwittism on display in all it's ingloriousness.

Woke, as I'm being accused of elsewhere in this abberative redneck bullshit of a thread?

Fuck off would be my very illiberal response to that most predictable dribble.

This freedom of speech dodge is great don't you think?

Second best post of the day . One never knows what surprises they find sitting behind there keyboard on there desk bright and early . Back on point , the reason I purchased a Gibson Les Paul a lifetime ago as my first guitar was because that's what Jimmy Page was playing . We loved Led Zeppelin and also Aerosmith and Joe Perry . What did we know in the mid 70's ? Not much , but we knew we wanted Gibson Les Paul's and Fender Stratocasters (Thank You Jimi Hendrix ) When we were kids we would go into the local mom and pop shop and lust after the new Gibson's and Fender's . Yes we did see the used offerings for sale , but we did not even bat an eyelash at them . We were typical middle class brats who all had part time jobs when we were in high school and we saved up and purchased our guitars . I seen my Gibson Les Paul Custom in 1977 and I was making $50 a week payments until I paid it off . ($300) So once a week when I went to make payment I could sit down and play her in the shop and then off I went . We didn't know any better except for Gibson and Fender . Another funny thing was about the amps we played thru were Fender Silverface Twins . Why ? That's what we had in band at school , and we were familiar with the Cops coming to our houses and we were afraid if we had Marshall's that the Cops would really get us in trouble . I remember one time at the mom and pop shop trying out a guitar thru a Marshall 4 hole and trying the volume up and the owner coming over to me and telling me to turn it down , and that's the impression I got was that Marshall's were for arenas and Stadiums .

Can't agree with you more. As a Chinese born and raised guitarist, who was educated in Australia, I've seen both sides (i.e. the so-called "Communist China" and Western democracy) I feel a bit sad about some of the posts in this thread, they are full of prejudice and hatred.

Some of the Americans or Westerners in general (please note that it is "some of", not "all of") , know nothing about China but blindly believe all this false information imposed to them by media.

"Travel a bit", is a really good advice, but if you refuse to see things with your own eyes and experience, be my guest!

Hey guys -

I did the survey and its very clear the general consensus was that there is a strong preference for an American made Les Paul reissue.

But I feel like the thread is going in a bad direction here - I take some responsibility

while some may think I posted it just to stir some shit the reality is that I had just purchased an Eastman 59 v guitar and am amazed by it - my thought was "WOW if this said Gibson on it - this thing would sell like hot cakes" ---- there fore the thread.

I think we should let the thread die at this point rather than have the Mods step in and delete it

this thread was dead at the starting gait
RIP
This thread was dead because there are people who are not able to keep a decent discussion. Big Al, for example, as knowledgeable as he might be, when someone uses WTF in every second argument... you might be right, but I don't have to listen to the way you treat people with a different opinion.

Redneck isn’t that kinda of racist. And no one was accusing you of being Woke. Rather is was a clear example of what overt racism actually is. It’s really not that hard to comprehend

Contrarily, you seem to accuse people of overt racism yet you still haven’t provided any examples. And like most people on the Left result to name calling when facts elude your premise.

Fuck off. lol That’s a little passive aggressive. Here a little more direct for you

What does Fox have to do with it or MSNBC for that matter, I provided a clear example of overt racism. Anyone with a scintilla of intellectual integrity would be able to recognize that dividing people into ”virtue” groups based on race rather than deeds is in fact racist.

If you can’t recognize racial grievance theory as being racist maybe you should turn of MSNBC and pick up a history book.

I thought the topic was a good one. It sparked my interest. Its also interesting to see so many opinions differing from my own.

I wonder? What if a thing to death to get the answer you are fishing for? Or just saying what it is you really want. So many threads looking for an alternative to a Custom Shop Les Paul. What if they were made in the Arturian star system by alien life forms, BUT WERE IDENTICAL?

Country of origin is more than geopolitics. I have always liked high end Japanese guitars. Wonderful instruments beautifully crafted. Still they all feel like Japanese guitars. Not a bad thing at all but it is noticeably singular. US guitars feel like US guitars, too me. The history, heirloom hallmark is important too. It is not a Gibson if it isn't born in the USA. Or the Sol star system. Fookin' Arturians are blue skinned thiefs cloning everyones intellectual property and flooding the universe with cheap replicants.
