• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

...and then closed the thread, blocking any ability to answer. You asked, in effect, do we really need a thread here that talks about, among other things, THE-SINGLE-BIGGEST-EVENT-FOR-HUMANS-IN THE-21st-CENTURY?* As if it doesn’t exist.

A thread that also had elements of musicians, venues, crowds, personal freedom and finally, a world renown GUITAR playing artist who also had his opinion. In an “OFF TOPIC” section of the forum, no less. My answer is a resounding, YES, for the record.

I’m certain any wallflowers that were spared from further, misguided bias might sleep a little better tonight. But I see it as just another form of newfound, heavy-handed censorship that has permeated the entire planet. But it’s your blog, so I get that part.

But you did ask a question that begged an answer.

*likely in human history, based on the number of humans affected

I was just about to write something similar but then it got locked.
As long as there's not a 1000 threads on the covid topic, I'm fine with at least one.

This event is life changing and we should be able to discus it.

Exactly. A pandemic - and its effect on the planet, should not be considered a forum infraction of being, ‘political.’ That some world leaders gave it that connotation is a good reason we’re probably still dealing with it.

But it is an off topic event that affects us all. And as long as it’s not in the vintage guitar sections, I’d say it’s fair game here. But again, it’s not my forum.

I closed the thread. Plenty of other social media sites to discuss this. Unfortunately this topic ends up being too super-charged with political viewpoints disguised as public policy discussions. I completely agree that this is a very important topic - literally means life or death for many, as we've already experienced. Sorry to lock the thread, but I have received some complaints already. Peace guys!

Thanks for the explanation, Mike. Believe me, I long for nothing more than to just be as we were in 2019 - as flawed as the world might have been then. But this ‘thing’ just dominates every facet of our lives now. So, that it rears its head here, on a guitar forum, is simply a microcosm of where the world is. In my opinion.

I have no desire to hijack a great guitar forum to further ANY political agenda. And I’m not here to save souls.

As Frank Zappa once said, “People will agree with you only if they already agree with you. You do not change people's minds." I’m all too cognizant of this.

Thanks for the pulpit and indeed, peace and good health to all.

If more people were here to help others we wouldn't be in the situation we now find ourselves. And there would be far less than 620,000 dead.

Be what you want to see.

I rather thought the blokes here can discuss, disagree, bring up valid points and still be friends at the end of the day.

I think they still can.

Lack of discussion is exactly why we are at this point in our history.

Unfortunately some seem to think opposing viewpoints must be shut down.

The 'new norm' is not what we were founded on and nothing I wish to participate in...

Good call

Enough other material for controversy to discuss: "are these inlays too busy"? - "is this chewmark correct?" - "since we all know that JB owns Beano, why doesn't he record a Cream tribute with it?" ;-)
