• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

First I have to thank Larry, this is indeed one of the best combinations of amp/speakers I've heard for jammin' at home. If Tech would utilize this combo, their sales would probably skyrocket...even more than they are now. Of course, and to keep the price reasonable too;) I think it's a combination of vintage cabinet construction of the Ampeg and the Celestion Blue speaker, coupled with the Tech driving this 12" hallmark speaker. Talk about a classic tone, versatility, and a complete range of tones from paf snarling growls to sweet blues-like voicing. This speaker with this amp is the perfect match...trust me on this! I may not have the musical abilities and blazing licks and phrases that many of you here have, but I have been an avid listener of good music all my life and I know what sounds good! And this is without a doubt my perfect home rig;) I'm really tempted at this point to have a cab built around the tech's guts w/Alinco blue...that's just how good it sounds. For now, I'll use what I have with the Tech sittin atop the Ampeg....

Here's the dream..I'm brainstormin' as I write, I'll find another mid sixties Ampeg Gemini I, I can find one still relatively cheap around $400-$450, strip the guts for spare parts for the one I have, buy another Alinco Blue $219 :dead: and fuse them together in this spare Ampeg cab...man, I'm sooo tempted...it's just that damn good! When I plugged the '59 RI into this today, I went through every setting from Larry's list, I played until whatever calluses I had on my fingers were gone and I couldn't play any more...that's how much fun I was havin' I think the Ampeg with the 12" Alinco Blue gives the Tech tone more depth and character, it rings with bell like tones and gets awful downright nasty when you push the drive. The alnico blue is actually underated at 15w, even Celestion told me that it was perfectly fine to run 22w from the Ampeg into it, but with this measly 10w pushing it...there's virtually no limits as to what you can do:wail:

Excellent suggestion Larry...you are a true visionary! :dude

Wow Dewey, I don't know what to say--I've been called many things but never a visionary--I imagine you'd be calling me other things had that speaker blown!!!

But thanks for confirming a hunch I had and I now know where my next $200 is going towards.....

BTW I just drove back from Memphis where I got to demo a Vox AC-15 and the THD 4X10 plexi: both great sounding amps but on tape at least the Trademark 10 could definitely hang w/'em in terms of tone quality.
