• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Tell how much you guys are loving your Duane Allman cherry bursts?

Tell me everything.
This run really took a some heat, for not being the cherryburst we saw Duane use in the early 70's, too subtle, not subtle enough, too pricey, ect.
But I'll bet the guys who own have a different story to tell.
Talk to me, cause I think they're sweet!

Ok, I'll play...

This is the best Les Paul I've ever heard, old or new.

About the guitar. I was down at Carter Vintage in Nashville one day last Summer with a couple of friends. We didn't have anything to do, so we decided to try all their reissue Les Pauls and see if any could beat a real burst that was down there at the time.
Long story short, this guitar won.
I could've been a green or pink burst, and I still would've bought it. Tone's the only thing I really care about, then the neck and luckily this one has a really nice copy of a real neck. I don't care about sunbursts, or unbursts, or if it's got this or that... the sound, that's all I really care about.
I do love the top though, it's a real bonus.

I heard those clips. They are absolutely incredible! And you might be one of the reasons Im on the verge of pulling the trigger.

I've always had a deep affinity for Duane from the first time I heard him in 70' He had a huge influence on my playing. I was in the right place at the right time.

I think the beauty of this model might be in it's subtly. I know it's a killer player.

As a sidebar I bought an aged Walsh which just be the best les Paul I've owned.
Just when you think these guitars can't get any better,
they do.

Keep it coming boys. Id really like as many personal hands on as I can get.

Roadrunner, the top on your Duane
looks like one of those great 3d tops
that changes and moves when you
roll the guitar.

Would you say that photo is accurate
in term of color.

What make are those zebras in the JTM45 clip.

OX4 pickups by Mark Stow. http://www.ox4pickups.co.uk/

Carter's has them in stock now. I like to switch back and forth between the stock pickups, with A3 mags, and the OX4's with A4's. The guitar goes from sounding like the Beano burst to sounding like a cross between Bloomfield's and Duane's guitar.

The photo's pretty close, in terms of color.

The top's like an old one, in regards to how it looks in the certain light. Without direct light it's kind of plain looking, almost like a plaintop. Then when the light hits it, the figure just jumps out and it's very 3D. It's matched very well too. You can see the seam in the photo but in person it looks like a one piece top and it's rather hard to find.

Does the neck have more unique
feel to it, something that sets it apart
from other R9's.
I can never say for certain how much
extra time is spent "meticulously"
recreating the specs on these necks.

I have two OX4s in a conversion & 1 in my RedEye prototype. These are excellent pickups. My RedEye sounds incredibly better in the bridge position.

For the guys who own them, played them, seen them up close, would you say the aged vibe on the Allman is as authentic as some of the other collectors choice guitars?

The Beast, Sandy, the Spoonful burst are double or triple take looking guitars in terms of that old vibe.

Thanks

One of the best runs ever! I have VOS pics posted on here somewhere. Dave just got one in that is killer looking! Number 150 too (last in the run). The neck profile on this run is awesome.
