King Crimson are a uniquely amazing band, with an instantly identifiable sound that nobody else comes close to as far as the perfection of what would grow to become prog-rock. I'd love to see them live. I imagine Vai did them right on stage too. The man can play almost anything.

Quick question. Amps or silent stage?

As far as Les Pauls go, best show I ever saw was Fleetwood Mac, including Fleetwood, McVie, Spencer, Kirwin and Green. Small club in Detroit's suburbs (the Palladium) in 1969. Basically, the same show that you hear on the Boston Tea Party recordings.

It's oxymoroic of me to say I prefer earlier incumbents of the phenomina that is King Crimson.

I do however least prefer the current staging.

In my humble opinion, whilst admiring the supreme musicianship of each individual, they are well wide of the mark in trying to replicate this material. There is something fundamental missing that doesn't elevate them beyond a tribute act.

Man I'm jealous of you guys those sound like fantastic shows particularly King Crimson. Mine would have to be Tedeschi Trucks at the Knoxville theater one of the tightest bands I've ever seen and they look like they're having fun

Vai had his rack and a couple cabs. There were a couple Roland JCs on stage. One was obviously Belew's, but the other was next to Vai's rig. I don't know if it was for him or Belew.

MNSHO I can't figure if the original King Crimson or Beat have nailed the 2 cat's fu*king in a bag sound more, they both are great at it :)

The best band that I ever saw live? Well for moving me, the original Faces show that I saw in the early 70's had me really feeling the music, Ron Wood with his Zemaitis and Ampeg guitars through the Ampeg amps really hit me in the right place, and Rod had the best blues belter voice that I'd ever heard live. But for more guitar centric music, I thought Jeff Beck when he was supporting his "Blow By Blow" album was pretty awesome. And aside from the ridiculous volume level, I saw Stevie Ray Vaughn kill it in support of his "In Step" album, sober Stevie tore it up! I give the nod to Jeff though. But his opening act, John McGlaughlin's Inner Mounting Flame band, gave King Crimson a serious run for their money in the two cat's fu*king in bag soundalike contest.

Another absolutley great band was David Bowie's band for the Station To Station tour. To this day, I still remember how great Earl Slick's guitar solo was on the song "Stay". His guitar sounded like it was on fire! And David Bowie's rhythm guitarist, Carlor Alomar, really drove the rhythm secton hard! What a great band!!!

'67 Jimi was mind bending. It was like... "WHAT did I just see and hear?!?

1968 Cream (twice) changed my life

1969 Who were THE best live band I ever witnessed

1968 Led Zeppelin. At hearing the opening riff to 'Train Kept 'A Rollin' it felt as if a giant hand grabbed the audience and didn't let go until the speakers in Jimmy's Marshalls stopped moving
