Is it?

No doubt the whole internet will completely agree. Ha! But y’know this is the internet and sometimes people say things to get clicks. Just imagine.

Anyway, is it? What do you think? And are you still apologising for your volume and tone?

Enjoy the show if you dare.Interesting bits and go to sections…

  1. 0:00 Which amp is this?
  2. 0:52 This is it!
  3. 1:18 But why?
  4. 1:55 Stop apologising for volume
  5. 2:49 Don’t use any pedals
  6. 6:50 Is it too loud?
  7. 7:51 So why don’t we just crank it?
  8. 8:58 Finding the amp’s sweet spot
  9. 11:39 Add the No-balls
  10. 12:35 Adding or subtracting tone?
  11. 13:05 The Under-drive Concept
  12. 15:55 Would the sound work for you?
  13. 16:55 What about a clean boost?
  14. 18:22 Combining two gain pedals
  15. 19:30 Using an EQ pedal with your amp
  16. 23:38 Is it still too loud?
  17. 26:24 What about delay and modulation?
  18. 28:50 And on-board tremolo

With the broadest brush of pleasing, YES.

I hesitate to say Lowest Common Denominator (LCD), because that doesn't do the thing justice. But most versatile, broad appeal, pleasing tone -- for the specific use case they outlined -- I concur.

Of course, people will weigh-in for, and similar arguments have been made about, the Twin Reverb. But that's a bit more of a beast that breaks out of the parameters they set out to explain.

I obviously agree here, in that the DRRI is the only Fender tube amp I have, the most representative of the optimal Blackface Fender species, to me. YMMV.

Then, there's the argument that this bleeds into content for content's sake -- do we really need this hypothesis?

Completely subjective, ultimately. For some, it's nothing but a Tweed, or AC30, or Marshall will do.

My solution was to grab 'em all.

Damn, I miss the days when people titled their videos so you knew what they were about. Like: "the blackface Deluxe Reverb is the best amp in the world".

I didn't watch, but I'm gonna guess that's what amp they chose. IMHO it should be a tweed amp though.

"Ha! But y’know this is the internet and sometimes people say things to get clicks. Just imagine".

YouTube content creators have to defray their costs, you know.

No click, no £.

Simple as that, really.

Absolutely man, I get that :) . I just wonder, would they get less clicks if they wrote in the title what the video was about?

That pesky algorithm rules all else when you're on the web.

You could always suggest that Mick and Dan risk getting less clicks if they wrote in the title what the video was about.

Perhaps if you supported them financially, they'd see things your way. ;)

You should know that Mick and Dan don't accept payment, sponsorship or product placement deals from guitar gear companies. They never have and say they never will.

Thankfully, here, it was done with a bit of fun, given they had a wall of classic amps that were 'the usual suspects' all powered up and they played an assortment of tones but kept the reveal with a bit of suspense. And then got down to business.

I guessed before clicking, not knowing their criteria. I was prepared to be wrong, thinking they might pick the Twin being inclined to think along the lines of most larger stage history, as do many. But they went with the club gig criterion.

Of course, I think the Blackface realm would be a safe bet regardless, given they are ... The PEDAL Show.

Haha, I know I'm alone in this "stance" that I have. I just miss youtube from like 2014 or so. I'm sure they are great guys, and they wont give a shit if they miss my view ;)

For my tastes

4 hole Hiwatt Custom 100 DR103 or DR504. I have an attenuator to get a handle on volume, and a Treble Booster, OG SansAmp, and a few fuzz pedals for all the flavors of breakup I need at any volume.

This is what works for me, and I never click on videos of that nature. I really don't care what others may prefer.

deluxe reverb is great. but the end drives it home. what's the best guitar amp ever? basically any simple 15/20 watt tube combo. pretty hard to argue against that.

Maybe controversial opinion? The Princeton Reverb sounds better than the Deluxe Reverb :D IMHO

@ourmaninthenorth is this your Bartel? If so, did you A/B it with the Starwood before buying?

As much as I love my TK Imperial MkII (which to me is the pefect amp), I'd still love to own a Bartel some day.
